Can some one advise please.

Last night, early hours of this morning I undertook the herculean task of tidying up my favorite folder in internet explorer on my XP Home PC, I then exported the lot to a folder on my XP desk top. I then transfered that folder to a back up drive, then transfered it to my new Win 7 desk top on another PC.

So now I have this favorites folder but can't seem to find a way of transferring/exporting it contents into Win 7 favorites, how do I achieve this please?

Hello Tram,

I find that copy them directly from your C:\Users\(user name)\Favorites folder works best to as a backup, then just copy them back afterwards. :)

If you used XP backup to export, just forget it and simply copy the favorites folder across to W7 with the usb drive, as the previous poster advised.

Thanks everyone, I think I have created some hard work for myself and maybe not making myself clear.

I have two PCs one with XP home on it, the other a new self build with Win 7 installed, I'm swapping between the two machines at the moment.

I took on the task of tidying my favorite folder on my XP Home PC.

My surfing habits are such that when I find a web site I really like I save it to My Favorites. Doing this also saves in many cases the live logo of the website, for example Amazon, if I save it to My Favorites, a nice live logo is saved and I can simply click on it to get to the Amazon site if I need to.

Knowing I was going to have to do it some time, I set about and made 40 new, ( yellow folders ), within XP My Favorites and sorted websites in to them, so tool sites in a folder called Tools, Furniture sites in to a folder called Home furniture and so.

Having compleated this, one by one I started to transfer each folder, ( I couldn't highlight the whole lot and move them ), from XP My Favorites to a new desktop folder called Export 1.

The problem was I could transfer them but each folder would then appear as a big E and titled bookmark in the Export 1 folder. Clicking on the big Es would reveal the contents/ websites but no longer as live logos.

Ok I thought maybe when I transfer the folders and their contents to
My Favorites in Win 7 they would reappear as live logos,____wrong! but I had yet to find that out.

Undaunted as I transfered from My Favorites to Export 1 I renamed each big E, Tools, Furniture and so on.

Having completed that task I then transfered the export folder to an external HD then from there transfered it to my new Win 7 desk top on other PC.

That's when I came here. I did what Ciera advised, while it worked, as mentioned all I ended doing was import the contents of the Export folder, all 40 big Es to My Favorites in Win 7 and they are showing as big Es, now there's a surprise, :o

If I click on the individual big Es the contents are ok but no live logos of the web sites.

I told you I didn't know what the hell I was doing, maybe I need to start again.

So,_ in My Favorites on my XP PC I have 40 yellow folders, I would like to transfer them to My Favorites on my Win 7 PC.

Can I do this, keeping them named and their contents/ websites/live logos intact?

You can copy them over as is to the C:\Users\(user name)\Favorites folder, but the favicons will not load for them again until the next time you visit them though.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Good morning Shawn,

Sorry Shawn how do I do this in XP, do I make a folder on the desk top, what do I do?

Favicons, Favicons, remember that one Tram, Favicons, Favicons.

Sorry, in XP, they are located at C:\Documents and Settings\(user-name)\Favorites instead.

You would just copy the Favorites folder from XP to a backup storage device (ex: DVD, USB key, another partition, etc...). After installing Vista, you would just copy the contents of the XP Favorites folder into the Vista C:\Users\(user name)\Favorites folder. :)

Thanks Shawn, it's a blessing to have you guys around,:) I'm knackard now, I'm going to get two hours of shut eye so I'll give it a go later.

While you are about, I want to reduce the size of my Win 7 desktop icons further then 100%, can I do this?

Not sure if this is what you meant, but in addition to Redsox's post above, you can right click on the Desktop and click on View and then the Large, Medium, or Small Icon size you want them to be.
