Hello again, Sevenforums.
I'd like to improve my wireless internet connection on my desktop. I've got a PCI wireless card installed, but it's kinda old. Plus I'm pretty far from my router.

Would getting a new or better wireless PCI card improve my internet connection? My laptop is often times further away from the router than my desktop is and it still gets around 4/5 bars (whereas my desktop gets 1 or 2/5 bars).
Moving my router is not an option. My dad won't let me (mind you, I'm 16).

Hi and welcome

If your current card is 802.11 A,B, or G getting an "N" card will imporve the reliablility and be faster as well.

How fast is your Internet Connection. It is likely that even your G card will be more than enough bandwidth for your internet connection.

For example, my Internet connection is 7Mbps. Wireless G has a throughput of 54Mbps....

I'm always learning here myself; will that 'improvement' be dependent on an N-approved router? Thanks .

yes manhunter it will be, also be aware of the flavour of the router single (2.4ghz) or dual band (2.4ghz & 5.0ghz) the latter is the best as it allows selective streaming with faster throughput of approx 270-300mbs

Go get high sensitivity antenna, it'll fix your problem... OR if you want to go to a little bit further, get a high sensitivity antenna, and an extension cable that goes like this:

Wifi card -> extension cable -> high sensitivity antena

Then put the antenna where it can "see" your router.
That should improve your wifi performance.
