I installed Seven on my laptop, and that was great! Tried to install on my desktop, but all sorts of problems!!

A dual boot with XP in both cases.

I've tried to install on a second partition on a sata drive, and on a 40Gb ide drive, but the same problem accurs. It will not recognise the lan card / device; I managed to persuade it to install the driver off of the motherboard cd, but whenever it has downloaded the updates and installed them the subsequent reboot doesn't show the system choces menu. It doesn't appear in the Seven System menu either.

A "Repair" under Seven doesn't find anything wrong? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any clues anyone?

Hello Jimhrvy, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Check with the motherboard's website to see if they have a newer driver version for your LAN device that may work better instead.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

i couldn't get a onboard lan driver for one of my desktops using an abit board either, i just went the easy way and threw in a pci dlink card and it picked that up immediately. my lap installs went fine out of the box. if you can find a vista driver for the lan, you can install under vista compatability mode as administrator and you should be good to go, unfortunately mine did not.

Thanks for your replies; my main concern is that when the system reboots there is NO option to select the windows version to boot (to).

On reboot the system goes directly into XP Pro.

XP Pro is on the "C" partition, Seven is on either the "D" partition or another drive (IDE) "E".

If I re-insert the Seven disc, I have to completely re-install again; the 'repair' option doesn't find anything wrong!! (?)
