Solved Install Windows7 from DVD or DVD UEFI?

Am wanting to do fresh install of W7. After placing DVD disc into DVD player and then restarting and pressing Delete key to enter BIOS I get two different choices to boot from DVD. One says DVD and the other says DVD UEFI.

Which one do I pick?
Would both choices ensure I have a bootable OS?
If I install using DVD UEFI choice will that install allow me to clone my OS which I would do with Acronis True Image 2014?
Does my current installation have some way of knowing how my current OS install was done..either DVD or DVD UEFI

My motherboard is an Asus Z87C and the BIOS screen has the words Asus UEFI in top left corner.

I have never done an install of OS so please help as I do not want to do the wrong type of install. Thanks Gary

Neither method would be considered wrong. Just choose boot from DVD, let us know what heppens.

Could you please post a shot of Disk Managenent now, before you start.

You do not have to go into the bios to make a choice, just use the 1 time Boot Menu key, ususally F8 then choose boot from dvd drive.

You should really research the subject before even attempting this.

Disk Management Printscreen for AddRAM

Hi AddRAM here is image of my disk management window. I have the usual system reserved + C drive as highlighted by picture. Does this tell you anything about what type of installation I have. UEFI install or standard install?

I need to know which I have as I want to do a fresh install that is exactly the same.

Looks like a standard, so you will just reinstall windows on the C partition, unplug the power cable going to every other hard drive before you start, just the power cable. Do that then post another shot of Disk Management.

Also check to see where Disk 2 is connected on the motherboard, it should be connected to Sata port #1

For installing Windows 7 a plain vanilla DVD will be the right choice. DVD-UEFI may get you into more questions than you are willing to deal with.

AddRAM I noticed you said 'unplug JUST the power cable going to every other drive'. Why not both power and sata cable? Just curious as to why you would do it that way. Thanks Gary

Why would you need to unplug the data cable ?

There`s no reason to, as long as the other drives have no power, that`s all that matters.

When the install is done, then you can methodically go back and put them in the order you want.

The boot drive should always be connected to sata port #1 on the motherboard, then connect the other drives.

I connect mine the same way I have them stacked in the case, and I always put my DVD drive on the last Sata port.

Of course when building your own PC, you would do this from the beginning

Thanks for that AddRAM...makes sense no power to non OS internal SATA drives means they cannot be seen.
It certainly looks like I have a standard installation of Window rather than a UEFI Windows7 installation.

Please check attached JPEG image of Secure Boot menu item within my BIOS. The Operating System menu item indicates 'Windows UEFI mode' selected. Though everything else is suggesting I have a standard install of W7 with usual system reserved plus OS partitions I come across this. I am not sure what it means or maybe I still have a standard install and this is something else. Any ideas?

Thanks AddRAM. I now have some clarity on what install I currently have, which is the standard W7 install and a clear way forward to do fresh install of W7. It will be a good learning experience for me to do an install.

Have you ever done a W7 UEFI Mode install and did it offer any advantage?

First off, I would never call it standard, but rather traditional.

I have installed using both methods, I see no advantage with UEFI, but that`s just my opinion.

But UEFI does have its purposes. (Installing windows on a GPT drive etc)

Research it and come up with your own conclusions

Steve (Essenbe) tells me if you were to install Windows on a M.2 SSD it has to be done in UEFI, I`ll cross that bridge when I come to it.
