Installation Error

Hi all,

I'm getting a very strange installation issue. I was hoping someone could shed some light on my problem.

To start with, I'm using a Windows 7 v7000 installer disk. I'm confident that this installer is good, because I've already set up my gaming machine with it.

Now I want to install Windows 7 on my home theater PC. The components are as follows:

ASUS P5N-EM HDMI
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66Ghz
Western Digital HD
2 GB of Ram

I am able to install windows Vista on this machine with out a problem.

This is what happens when I attempt to install windows 7:

Everything appears to load off of the DVD drive. I go through "Copying Files," "Expanding Files," "Installing Features," and "installing Updates." Then the machine reboots.

The installer continues to behave as expected, with "setup is updating registry settings." Then it reboots again... This is where the Sh*t hits the fan...

After the reboot, it takes me into a black screen "Windows Error Recovery." If I ask the machine to start up normal, it immediately reboots again, returning to another "Windows Error Recovery" screen. It will repeat this cycle forever.

If I ask it to start in Safe Mode, then I get the following error message: "Windows cannon complete installation in safe mode. To continue installing windows restart the computer."

I'm at a loss. I even downloaded build 7022, and the problem still persists. I would greatly appreciate any help in the matter.

Thank you.

Bryan

You trying to install 64bit or 32bit?

I had issues installing 64bit build 7000 although Vista 64bit would install.
I tried 32bit and it worked fine.

Just as a test try 32bit and see.

Hi saeborne and welcome to the forum!

During installations it is always recommended to disconnect all USB devices except mouse and keyboard as well as other peripherals connected to the computer (i.e. dual monitors, printers, etc.). Normally these devices are the culprit of failed installs.
Just to be clear, if it's a multi-monitor environment, just use the main monitor and unplug/disconnect the other monitor(s).

Please try it again with those suggestions and let us know how it turns out ;)

Hello Saeborne.

Please follow Nosferatux's advice since this could be probably the solution.

However, I've seen that Windows 7 reads/writes some memory addresses that Vista doesn't, so if you had a memory problem Vista might pass it during install but Windows 7 might get stuck there, as others have mentioned somewhere.

If Nosferatux's solution doesn't help, try removing one memory module ( I see you got 2GB of RAM) and stay with 1 GB of RAM. Try to install Windows 7, and if the problem persists, change the RAM that you left onboard with the other that you removed, still having 1GB total onboard.Try again, and let us know.If the installation passes, you need to replace one of your RAM modules.
