I used to install software and remove it in matter of seconds, now its a matter of over 10 minutes.
This all seemed to have started recently but i do not know the cause.
Help would be greatly appriciated :)

i tried removing something in save mode to see if this fixes it, but it says windows installer is not available in this mode. I also tried installing a exe a while ago wich did not have the windows installer, and it installed in about 4 seconds.

Thanks!

I dont see how computer specifications or disk info is going to give you any useful information. I have a SSD for windows, hard drive for everything else. The rest of the pc is fast enough to install apps properly.
even if the hard drive would be fragmented or almost full, an installation would not go from 5 seconds to 10 minutes.

I dont see how computer specifications or disk info is going to give you any useful information....
There is more info there than just specs and disk info.
e.g. you mentioned AVG

As a test, uninstall AVG and install MSE...
...then see if your install times return to normal.

You can go back to whatever antivirus app you want after the test.

Elsewhere, they often call for a run of MiniToolbox, to get an idea of backround-running programs as well as a general over-all view. Background-running programs can defiintely slow some, but not all, things down. Compuer specs sometimes give ideas as to where choke-points potentially exist.

obviously the cause has to be some kind of software issue. whether its a corruption in the register or some driver or something causing the problem is what im curious at. maybe there is a good piece of analysing software. I have the ability to disable AVG and i did without effect. But removing it....It always worked with AVG for about 4 years. now AVG can be the cause without it recently updated? Its something else...

I will try to explain my reasoning for my requested tutorials to be completed.

1. Knowing your system spec (complete system specs) lets us know many things. What is the capability of your system. These specs will follow your every post; which can make them very important at a later date. Knowing what security programs are installed and used is very important.
Knowing exactly what motherboard is install allow us to look up and see what methods of external drive hook up can be use and or is being used and many more things. Knowing what ssd you have allows us to recommend proper firmware. On and On.
Example: What Windows 7 are you using?
**One doesn't ask a auto mechanic to help fix their car and then not tell them what kind of car they have.

2. Using Disc Management show us what disk arrangement you have and the amount of free space on each partition. Nothing works properly if their isn't enough free space. It also let us see what partitions/drive is active and how they were formatted.

These are just basic information that can be helpful to us to help you.

Their will be more information required for us to know how to give proper guidance.
If for what ever reason you don't want to give us requested information that is just fine with me.
It's your computer but it's also your problem.

Look at my system specs and you will see a lot of information for other to see if need be.
If a member request more information, I will provide it.

When you complete the requests for information I will continue.

Their are two major things we do on the forum; help others and learn.
Help us help you.

No one suggested disabling AVG. The request was to remove AVG and install MSE.
Yes AVG has been causing problems lately for other members. I assume that is why the request was made.

A Clean Start Up also gives us more information on your possible problems.
msconfig will also give us more information but lets wait until the requested tasks are completed.

I never assume their is one problem.

MSE is window's on security system? i dont really trust windows for anything and i never installed a update because it breaks more then it fixes more.
Is there a recommended alternative?

AVG updates the things that it looks for (signatures) as well as its heuristics. One or more of those updates could cause the issues that you are having; especially, a heuristic rule.

Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) is the name of Microsoft's antivirus product for Windows 7. I don't know of another antivirus product that is as light weight as MSE. This makes MSE good for troubleshooting. If you have not be applying Windows Updates/Patches, then let's skip installing MSE.

Try this instead:

Download something that you can install/uninstall as a benchmark/test.
Scan that downloaded file with AVG.

Time how long it takes to install the test app.
Restart the computer.

Time how long it takes to uninstall the test app.
Restart the computer.

Disconnect from the Internet.
Uninstall AVG.
Restart the computer.

Time how long it takes to install the test app while AVG in not installed.
Restart the computer.

Time how long it takes to uninstall the test app while AVG in not installed.
Restart the computer.

Install AVG again.
Connect to the Internet.
Update AVG.
Restart the computer.

Time how long it takes to install the test app one more time to see if uninstalling/re-installing AVG changed anything.

If the install/uninstall time of the test/benchmark app is roughly the same slow time that brought you to this forum, then you probably won't be too happy with me......but such is the nature of troubleshooting.

If you don't install Updates, that is one reason you are having trouble. If you don't trust Windows, whatever that means, then switch to Linux. We all like and recommend Windows 7 as the best OS ever. It is up to you.

If you don't install the Windows Updates, you are opening yourself up for hackers and many other things. The Updates are the new add-ons for Windows that have the improved parts just put out. You are asking for trouble by not installing the Updates. That is one reason you are here I am sure.
