Installing motherboard drivers

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean there.

Windows 7 Pro 64
I tried putting my motherboard drivers onto a USB (Nvidia 680i) and Windoze 7 actually found some .inf files! None of them work though as they apparently don't add any hardware that Win7 can see. I can narrow down the list by checking "Hide drivers incompatible with this system's hardware" and it shows a sataraid driver. I don't have a RAID setup but I tried to install it yet the error I wrote above popped up again. These were the latest Win7X64 and VistaX64 driver files.
I'm getting closer!

I read that but I only have one HDD in the computer at the moment and that's a SATA and not set up for RAID as far as I know. But I have put as many drivers as I could find for my motherboard on a flash disk, split up in the folders described in the pdf and Windows 7 sees them. The problem is, none of them work to get me to the next step of the install and I can't find any other drivers for my motherboard. There are also no drivers for my hard disk either but shouldn't that work out of the box? I heard (on Google) that my motherboard had some kind of SATA issues fixed in the last drivers.
This problem is really persistent, I appreciate the people helping me :)

Try this >
Put known working XP or Vista Sata driver on your USB stick.

Don't insert your USB drive into your pc _ until you are ready to load the first Sata drivers!

If you are not using "raid" you need the 'base' Sata driver.

Just to confuse things, some manufacturers require you to put the raid ones on and system just ignores if you don't want to use raid(usually bios setting)

(Windows 7 accepted some 2004!! Sata drivers for my boards, then 'updated' them later on - as an experiment)

Dell make their own bios for your machine so expect maximum hassle, minimum upgradeability!

Can't you ask Dell service for help in starting you off?

PS I flicked thru your previous replies.

You don't need drivers (exactly) for your Hard drives - you need a SATA driver for the chip 'embedded' in your motherboard! You didnt read my first reply properly.

What are you doing on Seagate website?
You need Silicon image/a.n.other motherboard chipset Sata driver!

Is your hard drive plugged into Sata socket 0 or 1?
Have you tried a different sata cable?
Are any connectors plugged into/shorted across the tiny pins in the back of the hard drive?

I've found a number of 64 bit drivers for my motherboard that apparently work with 7, some even named 'SATA Controller' but these don't affect the install.
My HD is plugged into port 1, also tried it in port 0.
You're right about the Dell BIOS, next computer I get I will be building myself!
Tomorrow I'll get some new cables and see how that goes.

Can you explain history of PC.
Is it second hand?
Are u putting extras in the PC that were not in there(working) before?
ie are you adding the Seagate 750Gb to the original spec or was it working in there with XP/Vista?

Can your pc support over 500Gb hard drives(without a bios update from Dell?) - just a thought.

How is your PC 'boot' set up in bios?
name each line like >
CD/DVD boot1
Scsi boot2
hdd0 boot3
?? boot4

Is 'SATA' turned on in Bios > SCSI/SATA line setting?

PC is first-hand and taken care of well. The Seagate drives were functioning properly when running Vista 32bit. The BIOS doesn't give me an option for SATA, I think it's always enabled by default.

I've downloaded the 32bit version Win7 Pro and this installed without a hitch... so the hardware is fine and my computer is up and running again. Unfortunately, I can't see ANY way after this ordeal that I can successfully install 64 bit drivers so I can run the 64 bit Windows 7 (which was my intention).
Thanks for the help everyone, I will still be working on getting X64 so if I find a way I'll post it in here in case a Google searcher stumbles upon this thread.

Took a couple of minutes & found this >

When creating a bootable USB device, I am getting an error about bootsect
To make the USB device bootable, you need to run a tool named bootsect.exe. In some cases, this tool needs to be downloaded from your Microsoft Store account. This may happen if you're trying to create a 64-bit bootable USB device from a 32-bit version of Windows. To download bootsect:

  1. Login to your Microsoft Store account to view your purchase history
  2. Look for your Windows 7 purchase
  3. Next to Windows 7, there is an "Additional download options" dropdown
  4. In the dropdown, select the "32-bit ISO" option
  5. Right-click the link and save the bootsect.exe file to the location where you installed the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool (e.g. C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apps\Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool)
  6. Once the file has been saved, go back to the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool to create your bootable USB device
