Installing WINDOWS 7 BETA 1

I'm trying to dual boot WINDOWS VISTA BUSINESS SP1 and WINDOWS 7 BETA 1. I made a seperate partition for Windows 7 beta. Everything is fine up until the second reboot. It goes through the process of COPYING FILES, EXPANDING FILES, INSTALLING FEATURES . When it does the restart it gives me the option to choose either WINDOWS VISTA or WINDOWS 7. I choose WINDOWS 7 so I could continue with the installation but I get a thin blue line at the top of the screen and black screen underneath the blue line. I tried another monitor thinking it was the monitor, I tried another monitor same issue. I even tried installing WINDOWS 7 on the entire hard drive same problem. If someone could help me fix that . That would be great .

P.S. Hopefully in WINDOWS 7 it will allow you to change the Program Files location like it does in XP without it crashing on you like in Vista.

Well once you start the installation you don't need to select anything in the boot screen it should just carry on with the install until it requires you to enter your user name, maybe that's where you are going wrong, just let the install keep going on its own until the finish.

I did what you said about letting it go on its own. I didnt get any where to the screen where you type in the USER name or anything after the thin blue line and black screen right after the first reboot. It does the expanding files and all that but doesn't go any where after the reboot just hangs in the blue thin line . I dont know if its the iso file I downloaded off Microsoft's website or what.

Sorry, didn't realise you were still having trouble with this.

If Vista installs ok , but 7 doesn't - even if you install it on it's own, then it is probably not a hardware problem.

Sounds like it is either the iso , the burn itself, or the dvd.

I would burn the iso again using a program that controls the buffer well. This is a good free one

It's very simple click Create iso image in the Help file and follow that. Leave the default speed setting - it says Max, but controls the speed auto. so it "stays behind the buffer."

If you still have a problem , then you need to d/l another iso.

I used NERO 8 to create the .iso . I used speed 2.4 and it still gave me that thin blue line and black screen. I downloaded the .iso file from Microsoft's windows 7 website . Its not a hardware issue cause I could install Windows Vista without any issues its just that when I try to install Windows 7 and it does its completition I dont get the window where it asks me to put in a USER's name or any of those windows .

Finally installed

My solution. No matter how I tried I kept getting the thin blue line and couldn't complete the installation of Windows 7. I know I can install Vista so I did. My first attemp was an upgrade from Vista that failed but I decided to try again but this time I would not allow the installer to get updates. It worked.

Install Vista and get all the service packs, drivers, and updates installed then install Windows 7 but don't allow it to get hardware updates. It took a lot longer to install using this method but it worked. I read the drivers for Vista are the same as the drivers for Windows 7.

Hi Garry,

It could be something to do with the updates- I never allow any o/s I install to get updates till afterwards, I figured everyone did the same - so that may be it.

Seven includes the drivers for pretty much everything.

If you find you attach a peripheral e.g. camera or printer and it doesn't, then if you can find Vista drivers for those , they should install if you use the Compatibility mode.

If you have old peripherals that only have XP drivers, you are less likely to be able to use those drivers - you can try using Compatibility mode for them , you never know.

Luckily, 7 has a lot of generic drivers included that will provide basic functionality many devices even if you don't have the specific drivers for them.

I think it might be a driver issue... Probably an incompatible IDE/RAID/SATA driver... Try downloading the vista driver for your IDE/RAID/SATA controller where your hard disk is mounted on...Use the setup disk driver version. The "F6" driver disk. Create a diskette (!) or CD with this driver.

Then ,during W7 install, when asked to select partition for installation, use the driver disk option to load the driver , even if it sees your disk. Then continue with the install and see if it helps.

I doubt its a driver issue. I'm installing windows 7 BETA onto its own partition . I choosed where I want the installation to go . I dont see the screen after the first or second reboot it doesn't complete the installation where it ask you to input the user name and password .
