Intel StepSpeed and Windows 7

I have a Pentium M that downclocks to ~500 MHz to length battery life.

Windows 7 requires a 800 MHz processor to install. So, if I install Windows 7, will the processor still be able to downlock to 500 some MHz?

Thank you. But will the proc. clock down to 586 MHz in Windows 7? And at that speed, will the OS be unbearably slow, provided that is below the minimal requirement for clock speed?

No way to know for sure IF it will clock down, or when it will be unbareably slow. I suspect the upgrade adviser will tell you it cant run, but I dont know

Yes Windows will downclock the processor based on a percentage scale, as long as the processor supports it and more power from the processor is not required.

You should have no problems. Windows will speed up the CPU when it demands more from it. If your CPU is slower...it just means that it will speed up more often than a faster CPU would.

Windows XP can handle 586 MHz perfectly fine.

I'm just not sure about Windows 7. I just hope 7 doesn't speed up my CPU excessively, decreasing battery life. I heard all kinds of glowing reports about how Windows 7 saves battery life, but I'm not sure if they apply in this situation.

My processor can run at 1.4 GHz. When the CPU load is low, it goes down to 586 MHz.
