Solved Internet not working at home.

Hello.

So i have a very strange problem with my internet, so the problem is when i am at my dads house my internet will not work if there isn't another computer nearby, so if i want to use the internet i have to have someone computer nearby and that is kind of a problem. When i am at my moms house it works fine, and when I LANed some weeks ago it also worked fine. So the problem is not hardware i would think.

So i used the windows troubleshoot thing i think it's called in english and when i do 1 problem always comes up and that is "Local Area Connection Invalid IP Configuration" so naturally what i do is search for this problem and so i try some suggestions like calling our ISP if they could help me but they didn't know what the problem was so the couldn't help me, i also tried some commands in CMD but nothing happened so i come here for some help.

I also use D-link home plugs for my internet but that also worked at the LAN so that shouldn't be the problem?
I also read something about having a virus will trigger the firewall to do something and i had some kind of virus that i removed, i did use the system recovery to when it worked but the problem was still there.

I don't think there is anymore information i can give you and i hope this is something you can work with.

Can other computers connect to same router and access internet that way? Are you connected wired or wirelessly?

Check your Services are Started on the PC. Otherwise try to start them:

• COM+ Event System (for WZC issues)
• Computer Browser
• DHCP Client
• DNS Client
• Network Connections
• Network Location Awareness
• Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
• Server
• TCP/IP Netbios helper
• Wireless Zero Configuration (XP wireless configurations)
• WLAN AutoConfig (Vista wireless configurations)
• Workstation

Note: You can check the services in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.

Sorry, i mean nearby my computer and yes, all the other computers in the house can connect. Im connected wired through a D-link home plug. All the services are started, and i dont have the wireless one for XP/Vista.

If you pull out the network cable from the non working machine and put it in another machine ... it works? Use a laptop to test.

It does only work if another computer is nearby? Must it be a red or yellow computer hahahaha? How can your computer even know another computer is nearby!!!

I tried using the cable on a laptop and it was the same problem which was weird because i had tried that before, but seeing as it doesn't work i guess the HomePlug thing is the problem because i used different ethernet cables also, i just find it strange because the HomePlug worked at the LAN.

I really dont know why having a nearby computer changes anything haha

So any computer connected to the homeplug cable has the problem. What if you connect directly to router (connect laptop wired to router)?

• check network cable from homeplug to computer.
• check netwrok cable from homeplug to router.

Check all connections if cables if connectors are plugged in correctly.
Don't attach homeplug using extension cord but directly in wall socket

If i connect directly to the router with a laptop it works, and i've check all the cables. I'm gonna try another pair of HomePlugs tomorrow and we will see if that is the problem. Thanks for the help and if it works tomorrow i will let you know.

Put both home plugs as close to each other as possible. So put them in same wall socket for example and test with laptop. Working? If so.... the signal through electricity cable has some trouble. Don't use extension cords!

I tried those things aswell, and it didn't work. So i exchanged the HomePlugs and it worked fine. Something that might work for future people with this problem is reseting the router.

Most likely one of the homeplugs was faulty.

Why use homeplugs ... they are expensive?! Better buy a wireless adapter (sort of usb stick) for about $10,- and work wirelessly.
