nVidia Driver Cleanup Guide !! This is what you want to follow.

Should give you a clean install on the new graphics card.

You have the new driver in a zip folder so you won't have to download again.
Unzip and install when you get to download new driver step at end.

Okay I managed to get windows to start without a BSOD using Lordbob's guide. But now in the device manager there's a caution sign over the graphics card. And the device status say "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" Also there are scattered blue and yellowish lines across the screen now.

If your card is OCed, turn it back down.

It sounds to me like it is artefacting (in addition to driver issues, which could be similarly caused), but I want to check it.
If you can get TechPowerups GPUZ, run the stability tester (as shown in my tut) and check to see if it has errors.

If so, I would strongly suspect that the card is dead/dying and you may as well replace it.

It might be beneficial to clean off old drivers first (from safe mode), restart and reinstall the new nvidia drivers.

Its says GPU-Z.0.4.6.exe is not a valid Win32 application, I haven't OC'd it or anything.

What is your PSU brand/model?

Just to clarify - the GTX460 is your second graphics card? And you had problems with the first aswell?

Run Memtest on the RAM?

Run any other hardware tests?

I would have to say - that generic 550W PSU, which is most likely low quality, would have to be top of my list for possible problems, as the chances of 2 successive graphics cards being faulty is pretty low.

I agree with reventon, your PSU is highly suspect. Try and borrow one to test with, if that is not possible then find a shop that can test your computer with a known good PSU.

If you end up buying one, the above suggestions are both excellent, be sure to get a quality PSU, this is not something you try to save some money on.

Don't really have anyone I can borrow a more powerful PSU from, so I guess now I need to figure out whether to RMA the video card and see if the next one craps out too, or buy a new PSU and see if my video errors get fixed.

Is there a tool that can measure if the PSU has gone bad?

If this is your PSU I thought I'd post the specs on it.
ATX12v power supply - 550 Watt | ATX EPS12V 2.92

It states a 72% Efficiency rating (typical load)
And only 18Amps per +12 volt rail which I think may be a little low.

How I would proceed at this stage -


1. Run Memtest86+ and Prime95

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/100352-cpu-stress-test-prime95.html (run the Blend test as well as the Small FFT test)

2. If they both pass, replace that PSU

3. If you still get errors after the PSU replacement RMA the Graphics Card.

4. If you still get errors then - RMA the motherboard.
