Is there a chance I am okay?

I have been sick for several weeks. Yesterday I got home & dl'd Chrome Beta 4. @ some point , while wathcing Justin) I was hit with a varation of the 2009 antivirus fake scan. I instantly ctrl/alt/del and hit task manager , then shut it down via explorer. No issue.

Just a few hours ago I stupidily restored back to the day before I ran into 2009 antivirus xp (I have a lot of times, never had a problem) however the restore apperantly ignited the program in chromes cache and MSE lit up (I was running a scan anyhow) with this. I then ran eset online scanner. all clean.
I am stilll very sick and being as this only happened for a split second via a restore & was caught before launching is there any way I can believe I am safe?
I'm running Win 7 64 bit Pro. Due to the season I have a TON of info and purchase as well as the zune marketplace etc.
Is MSE up to the job of catching this due to the rather unique fashion it ocurred to me or am I forced to call my credit companies , bank etc the day before X-Mas.?
Please let me know if there are additional things I can check for in the registry or whatever. So far I do not see anything MS mentions in the link they sent me to that is snipped. I could really use help here.
Scared out of my mind,
J23

Just to be sure, do an addition scan with Malwarebytes

If there's anything there that shouldn't be, MB should pick it up.
Don't forget to update the Virus Definitions before starting the scan.

Good Luck.

It really wont affect the scan at all, but if you feel better turning it off, then do so.

MB always comes up with that result the first time you run it, I don't think you should delete it, seeing as it's a legitimate System file, but since nothing else popped up, id say your in the clear, but do keep an eye out for any strange behavior.

What you say is amazing and is fantastic, would you recomend that I keep Malwarebytes on my machine along with MSE? Aslo you mentioned strange behavior...other than the obvious slowing of the machine and what not, what else should I look for? Or would that basically be it?

Yes, id say keep it on your machine, it won't clash with MSE, because i have both, and no problems with either.

Well anything obviously not normal, icons missing, hidden folders that used to show being hidden, random p*rn pop-ups, explorer not starting, there's many things different viruses do. If you do feel that you may have malware on you system, start a new thread here, and include the symptoms.

Definitely keep MB installed and always update it before scanning. It's a valuable addition to the arsenal.

Strange behaviour would be as you guessed, lot of odd/high CPU usage (viewed in task manager) or odd items appearing in msconfig's start up tab

Chances are you are fine (have you wiped Chromes cache/files etc?)

Just run a few extra scans over the next few days.

If you are very concerned, you also download another av like avast/Avira etc and scan with them (especially the boot time scans to scan for rootkits and the like)

A few years ago I thought that I had a virus (no not the swine flu type), and I made a virus scan and all was well. To get that extra confidence that I wanted. I went to the Symantec site (they offered a free virus scan), you may want to double check, too. If Symantec does not still offer it one of the other major might, Mcafee, etc. They offfer it because they hope you find something, get nervous and buy their product.

Just quick tip:
Boot your computer in safe mode and scan with Malwarebytes full scan.

If you want to be sure you can get other scanners aswell:
Hitman Pro 3 - SurfRight (cloud scanner, so you will need internet connection to scan. Scan time approximately 2-3 minutes)
a-squared Free - Free of charge Anti-Virus, Anti-Trojan, Anti-Spyware, Anti-Dialer and Anti-Worm Software - Freeware! (it is scans with Anti Malware and Anti-Virus scanners. But it takes a while to scan full system)
SUPERAntiSpyware.com | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware! (it is a similar program to Malwarebtes)

If you are still unsure, I can give more.
But you should be ok. ;)

But before deleting anything show us results, in case it's just False positive.

I remember reading somewhere on the malwarebytes forum about that same result being a false positive, shows up regularly on Vista & W7 64 bit installations. You can either do nothing, or add it to the whitelist.

+1 for MBAM & SuperAntiSpyware (just uncheck "start when windows starts", as the free version doesn't include real time protection anyway)

I ran Esets online scan. I believe this is the best call re "live" scans. I shall check symatnec as of now and post results.

q about running multiple malware apps?

As I just said there are a lot of suggestions in this thread, all of which I'm open to, but I am concerned about running multple anti-malware/anti virus apps at the same time. The cloud ones strike me as being the best opiion as the footprint would be the lightest. To the point, does anyone know of any of the programs mentioned in this thread cause any form of conflict with MSE or Malwarebytes?

There is no such thing as too much data so thank you again.

J

on demand scanners such as Malwarebytes, Spybot Search & Destroy, SuperAnti Spyware etc generally won't conflict with each other, or antivirus programs. Running multiple antivirus programs with real time protection will cause conflicts, and as such, should be avoided. Online scans won't conflict with anything.
The "best" antivirus/antimalware/antirootkit/antispyware is a hotly debatable topic. Basically, the one that works best for you will be the one that fixes the problem...
Let us know how you go ;)

Great info. You can look below , welll actually above re my malwarebytes safe mode scan. As far a the best AV ...Yeah that is a huge debate. I am loving what MS has done with MSE (even without hiroustics ...spelling...!!!) had Eset 4 for a year but was not impressed as many are with the prog. It does lea ve a light footprint but not the best security in my circles experiances.
