Hi,

I have a Toshiba E-Studio25 connected to a PC running XP. I just added a new Win 7 64bit PC to my network and just can't get it to print. I've set up a new local port and pointed it to the Toshiba, if I install a generic driver such as a HP Laserjet 4, it will send the print job to the printer and I can see it on the XP computers print list, but it won't print. I think it must be something to do with the driver, but it's an older printer that should work off a generic HP driver. I've even downloaded a Vista 64bit driver for the estudio25 from Toshibas site, but this resulted in a spooling error message. I have to get this working, would be very greatful of some help!

Thanks :)

If you restart the print spooler service on the xp machine, will the document in the que go ahead and print?
If you are sure about the printer working with the HP Driver (emulation) then try to dumb down the driver on the Win7 machine. Use the advanced tab in printer properties and select print directly to printer, uncheck use bi-directional support and any spooling or advanced printer features check boxes and see if that helps at all.

Hiya,

Just tried that, now it's showing an error message on the Win 7 Printer list, as soon as I hit print it comes up in the list with an error, like it's not even trying :( I think it must be a driver problem, but I just don't know what other driver I can use?

Thanks for your help!

You mention installing a generic HP Laserjet 4 driver, have you tried downloading the latest driver for your printer? seems so simple but may be worth a try :)

It seems that the only drivers available are for XP. Try the following...

1, Reboot the computer and repeatedly press F8 and select Disable Driver Enforcement from the 'Boot Options' list.
2, Install the drivers in http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html for XP (any SP).

See if that helps

How is the printer attached to the network. Seems like it has an internal network card but it also seems like you are using an XP machine to share it on the network. So rather than using a local port and pointing it at the XP machine like \\XpMachineName\PrinterShareName. Have you considered adding a tcp port and use simple tcp printing (with the actual IP address of the printer) and then see if the driver might work? If it's physically attached to the XP machine using a usb or parallel port disregard the previous. Consider attaching it to the Win7 machine and see if you can print to it if you have the usb port or lpt port option.

Where did you find the XP drivers? The only ones I can find for XP don't have an .exe file to install, just the .ipi file

Cheers!

@patwhatsthat It's phisically attached to the XP with parallel, and I don't have a parallel port on my Win 7, and the printer doesn't have USB :(

The drivers can be found [never mind, they're rubbish]
I'm downloading now to test if the drivers are safe so wait for me to report back ;)

You need to extract the files to a location of your choice...

You will then need to click Start -> Devices and Printers -> 'Add Printer' and direct the installer to where you unzipped the files.
   Note
You may have already done this but as we have 2 different download sites it's worth a try

These ones don't have a .exe file either, so should I still restart and do the F8 thing before installing and skip the compatibility view?

Tried F8 and disabling but still no joy. Also, when I install the printer it will only allow me to point to an .ipi file, I can't point to a folder with all of the files in it - could this be a problem?
