Java problem since moving to 64 bit

I'm running 64 bit Win and am trying to run a Java applet to download music files I have paid for from HDTracks. The music site's Java applet appears in downloads and I select Java to open the jlnp applet. Java starts with a pop-up screen in front saying "Splash: recv failed". I dismiss the popup and the Java screen then runs for about 15 seconds (moving dots show progress) and then it disappears.

I get the same result in IE (32 & 64 bit), Firefox and Safari. I have used Revo Pro to uninstall and then clean re-installed using both online and manual methods. Used JavaRa to check version and remove old traces. Have reinstalled both 32 and 64 bit with no effect on the problem. I was using Version 6.0.210.7. I also tried an old version (5.0.22) but it did not install browser plugins automatically. Currently running 6.0.16.

Java want $50 to talk to an expert so I'm hoping to get help here.

Have you tried to test Java by itself using Java's website: Download Free Java Software ? If it works on their website then it's probably a problem with the music service. You can buy music on Amazon w/o any so-called "service". And don't pay for anything that's copy protected...some day you'll regret it.

roncerr I had been using the Java site and trying to run their "test" applet - it didn't run indicating a problem with my instal of Java.

Inexplicably (24 hours later) it is working. The test applet loaded with an 'all clear' message and my music files are downloading. I suspect auto-update of Java has helped.

For interest HDTracks release re-mastered 'classic' recordings in 96khz/24bit quality available as flac, AIFF or 320kbs mp3. The site seems to have links with pioneer recording studios and specialise in jazz, blues, classical as well as other genres. The files are DRM free and cost about the same as a CD. You need a top sound card and good headphones to benefit.

For some reason Java is working again. I went to the Java test applet site and this time it opened. No idea why it started working. Download applet works too.
