Java thread not working in windows 7

I have a Java app that runs just fine on Windows XP. However, on Windows 7 there is a problem related to a job being done via a Java thread.

Background: The app spawns a separate job via a Java thread and continues on while the spawned job executes. In other words, 2 things happen at once.

Problem: On Windows 7, when the app spawns the job, Windows sits and waits for the spawned job to complete before it continues on. In other words, 2 things DO NOT happen at once.

It's as if Java threading does not work in Windows 7. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think I'm having the same problem, and would really appreciate some guidance as to where to look.

This will fix it for you:-

DOWNLOAD UPDATED VERSION

Get the latest version (7) of Java Runtime Environment (JRE)... © Sun Microsystems, Inc.
Click the "Download JRE" button to the right.
Check "Accept License Agreement "
Locate the entry for Windows x86 Offline and click on the associated file name, save the file to your desktop.


<STOP> Do not install the new version of Java yet. We need to do some cleanup first!

REMOVE OLD JAVA VERSIONS

Click on Start...then... Click the Start Search box on the Start Menu.
Copy and paste control appwiz.cpl into the open text entry box.
Depending on your current view setting ...
Double click on Programs and Features.
Under Programs, click on Uninstall a program.
Locate the following program(s):
Java Auto Updater
Java™ 6 Update 26
Select the program and click on Uninstall to uninstall it.
Repeat steps 3 - 4 for each program in the list. When finished... Close the Control Panel window.
Delete old Java Folder
Right click on the Start...button.
Using the Start Search box on the Start Menu.
Navigate to and find the following folder: if found, delete it.
It's possible it may have been removed by the uninstall steps
C:\Program Files\Java\ <==== delete this entire folder
When finished, exit Search.


INSTALL UPDATED VERSION

Close all open applications (standard), especially your browser.
From desktop... Right-click on jre-7-windows-i586.exe select "Run As Administrator" to install the newest version.
Follow the on-screen directions...when installation is completed successfully, reboot your computer normally.
Once the computer has been restarted, you can delete the "downloaded" installation file from your desktop.


OPTIONAL:
To prevent some unnecessary JAVA components from running when you boot your computer each time...

Go to Control Panel... click on the JAVA icon.
Press the Update tab... UNCHECK "Check for Updates Automatically". (You can check for updates manually.)
Reply "Never Check" to the warning prompt.
Now press the Advanced tab. Press the [+] to expand the "Miscellaneous" options.
UNCHECK "Java Quick Starter".
Press Apply and OK... then close the Java Control Panel. close and exit Control Panel.
