"LAN doesn't have a valid IP Config"

I keep a list of all the things I've personally had to contend with. Mostly help I got from this or other groups actually :D

Not complete and not the fix for everyone, but... you never know.

I think that the main problem is really a driver issue. These fixes are workarounds till hopefully more and better drivers start appearing now that 7 has been released!

FSeal, thanks. I checked and I dont have Bonjour service.
I will try your other suggestions as well.

and Yes I have already disabled v6

And I'm still having trouble installing the driver. I've redownloaded it also.
I unpacked to a folder and tried to "locate and install driver manually", but when I find the folder the updater doesn't recognize whats in it (it only shows the readme folder and not the other files)

Have you tried XP recently? I have the same problem with different hardware and found out that somehow the mobo ethernet controller went to crap. If it's working on XP then definately a w7/driver issue.

Nah lol. Just out of suggestions at the moment.

WDAexodus has a good method of troubleshooting. Perhaps you can setup a dual-boot with XP for testing.

Please have a look at this tutorial. 169.254.xx.xx is not a valid ip address. Go to services.msc and see if the DHCP service is set to Automatic and Started.

Okay, as per your pm I took a look at your post,
Btw thank you for messaging me.

I noticed you have a tunneling device installed. I assume you have a vpn client installed? (such as hamanchi)

Uninstall that and restart.
You have ip v6 disabled correct?

You have tried setting a dynamic ip, which normally solves this, (which has me confused as well.)

Can you draw me up a sketch of the way your network is setup , include everything from your modem to your pc (modem , wireless router, computer, what kind of cables you are using. also try to include the ip address you access your router with.)

and do you still have your disk that cam with your mobo?

I am leaving for work, ill be back in about 5-6 hours
Ill finish helping you then. :)

Ok, I did this, and it is already set to "Auto" and started

and with this:
"D: Enter BIOS, make sure that the Integrated NIC is Not Disabled."

I didn't find this in my bios settings. under LAN cable status the only option i could change was enable lan cable check during posting... which was disabled and I then Enabled... should I have done this?
I searched everything I think, and couldn't find anything about the NIC....

**Ok, forgive because I had to look up what this was, lol. I don't have a vpn. I connect through a router sometimes when I need to share the net with another pc, but usually I'm plugged dirtectly into my Cox Cable Modem.

Uninstall that and restart.
You have ip v6 disabled correct?

**yes v6 is disabled

You have tried setting a dynamic ip, which normally solves this, (which has me confused as well.)

**yes I've gone back n forth

Can you draw me up a sketch of the way your network is setup , include everything from your modem to your pc (modem , wireless router, computer, what kind of cables you are using. also try to include the ip address you access your router with.)

**I basically stated it above. I connect directly to a Cable modem usually, but sometimes through a linksys router.

and do you still have your disk that cam with your mobo?

**yes I do. I've installing the LAN drivers and others, but it says it doesn't support the opterating system. I went to ASUS' website, but they don't list windows 7 as an option for my mobo. I have P5NSLI.
I've updated my video driver and sound driver.
I haven't updated directx... does that matter?

thanks

When you insert the disk close the auto play menu. Open the disk via explorer, right click on the autorun.exe If its not labeled autorun.exe check autorun.inf it should tell you. auter you right click open properties, the find compatibility. Tell it vista sp2. and run it again. It shouldgive you the options to install the drivers. Im using an asus maximus forumla and thats how I had to get some of my drivers.

ok ill try that and get back to you. thanks

** it says theres a driver incompatibility- that it requires a digitally signed driver..
it "can't execute Kernel mode driver service" or load "ASUSHWIO.DLL" or "ASCDDMI.DLL"

I tried switching to sp1 but it was the same....

Remove the internet cable from the pc and turn off the cable modem. Go to device manager and expand Network Adapters, Then right click on your network adapter and click Uninstall. Then restart your computer. Turn on the cable modem again and after 2 mins, plug in the internet cable. See if it helps.
