Hello All......

Sorry for the long first post and perhaps strange question

I'm looking for some help with my brother laptop (Its an HP G61), he's had it a fair while and uses it almost every day, mainly for surfing the internet and chatting on Skype to his mates.

He's recently had an issue with it when he turns it on it comes up with a message saying that the battery is low and the storage capacity is very low and may need to be replaced, primary internal batter (601).

After passing this it comes up with a log in screen, he tells me this has never come up before and used to load straight up, it says administrator and requires a password. Naturally we've tried all the usual passwords that he uses or I would have used when it was first set up but nothing works and it says 'your account has been disabled please see your administrator'.

Obviously we have no idea how this has occurred or what we can do to sort it out, I have 'googled' it but with no success. Is there anyone that can help at all or is it ruined?!?!

Finally......I have no idea if it was linked but i've been told that a few days before all this occurred my brother received a phone call saying that his windows on his computer was due to expire, thinking this was a scam he hung up immediately and they rang straight back as soon as the phone was down, he gave them no details and provided no information just that he wasn't interested and again hung up and heard no more. IS this just a coincidence that now he's locked out of his laptop?!?

ANY help would be massively appreciated and sorry for the VERY long first post!!!

Thanks

Hello and welcome Grovestarr mate on the battery issue do this and post back a pic of what you find for the laptop battery see pic I need to see the cell volts and capacities
On the password have you tried - Admin - admin - administrator etc sounds rather obvious but...
Using HW Info
PART A:
You can test the volts on the PSU with HW Info HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download < download the right bit version and close the right hand window select Sensors and scroll down to the power section where you will see what the volts are doing see my pic. In my pic the section (Nuvoton) with VBATT is a dead give away you are in the section for the rail voltages. There are other section titles and one that pops up often is ITE
Now the voltage on the different rails have to be within 5% =+/- of what is required or the machine will not work properly if at all.
ATX Minimum Specs:

3.3v Rail (ORANGE) (Min: 3.14v Max: 3.47v)

5v Rail (RED) (Min: 4.75v Max: 5.25v)

12v Rail (YELLOW) (Min: 11.4v Max: 12.6v)

(GREY CABLE PIN 8 - 5v = Power Good signal)

0v “Rail” (ALL BLACK cables, case, and board fixing screws)
See this for the rail voltage info
Power Supply 101: A Reference Of Specifications - Power Supplies (Section 2.)
The original right hand window shows the machine running and is handy for that but for looking at the components in some detail close it and use the main left hand side panel
FOR OTHER COMPONENTS
PART B:
Open each small square with + in it on the section the components are in and then click on the individual component/s (it will highlight in blue) - in the right hand side will appear all sorts of details including brands speeds and other essential info that particular device. See pic for example.
