i refuse to stick that abortion on my computer. even if it is only for 20 minutes.
vista, in its purely satanic form, can break things with it's shear will.

looks like I'm buying the full version. :D

20 minutes for Vista? I can differ on that one! I spend about 8hrs. getting Vista on lately just to see a fresh install for SP2 and then backing the entire primary up! "8hrs.!" :( A nice clean install of 7 that takes about 20 minutes then some for drivers.

Full version Ultimate 64 retail thank you! :D

I seriously think MS would be wise enough to fix that solution. $350+ for a retail version, or $150 for an upgrade that works as a retail. Seems like everyone will do the latter.

Yeah you can buy those (don't know if you can anymore though).
I think they were to run it from a USB, not install it though.

UPGRADE disks are not to be frowned on. Actually they are better than (IMHO) Full Disk. MS recommends (some Beta Testers) upgrade every time, while they also have others that do a CLEAN INSTALL every time. I'm on of the "Always Upgrade" now per the manual from a Vista "UPGRADE DISK Set " , To clean install, follow all instructions when it comes to "Insert KEY" say NO, the popup will "ask if your sure" say yes. this will give you 30 days without a KEY fully functional.
Prior to 30 days, insert the DVD and simply upgrade this time using the UPGRADE KEY. PLUS it is a bunch CHEAPER.

Has any seen the Vista SP1 compliance test? it sort of looks like Win7 Upgrade test.
SP1 would only upgrade the following.
[HostBuild]
MinClient=6000.16386
MinServer=6001.16510

I just came out of one office supply chain that still sees the full retail version of Vista Home Premium priced at $219.99. It stands to reason that the 7 Ultimate upgrade disk pricing would be close to that when 7 is first out.

As for upgrade disks I still have the old 95 upgrade disk hanging here somewhere when originally upgrading from 3.1! :D

"Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade ($49.99) and the Windows 7 Professional Upgrade ($99.99)"

As I said the Upgrade disk for Windows 7 Ultimate should be around a 150 bucks & it looks like this pricing will hold true. ;)

I said this months ago that I'm going the upgrade disk route for the half price deal.
You'd have to be insane (or more money than brains) to pay FULL price for this.

And everyone here that has said you can upgrade the disk to itself with no prior OS installed for a clean install is absolutely right! ;)

This is Brian Livingston's website Windows Secrets on this...

That wasn't in direct reference to the BestBuy special but the expected full retail price once those are announced this month. Being the latest version coming out you'll likely end up seeing a few other specials from other chains as well due to the slow economy.

MS should sell custom flash drives with Win7 on it :)

I have been wondering when this is coming. Pretty soon DVD drives will go the way of floppy drives. We need USB install sticks.

That will be an Upgrade from Vista SP1 Edition to edition....so if you have Home Premium then you can upgrade to W7 Home Premium....
You won't be able to upgrade from the RC or leaked Versions without a bit of smoke and mirrors....

Everyone here I'm sure will agree with me on this...
When the final version of Windows 7 comes out they along with me WILL do a Clean installation of this operating system to make sure it's the best it can be!!! :p

Yea, it's a PITA having to re-install all your programs, (for me this is 4 days) drivers, tweaks, etc but it's worth it to have a perfectly working OS with all your programs & drivers working correctly! ;)

I just put a second install of the 64bit RC on here to how things will go under different circumstances. I think the mbr entries ended up on the storage drive and not the array however since that was left plugged despite being in the last port! :(

Well at least I try unplugging along with the second time for first drive and rebuild the BCD manually. And nothing ever tops a nice clean fresh install of "7"! :D

Do you mean to say that this method of clean install using Upgrade disk is as good as doing d same from a full disk? Will it complete erase the traces of Vista from my system? Next yr, I don't wanna have Vista traces on a system but have a Windows 7 (probab SP1) :D

Then y ppl r willing to spend 5X more for the clean install using full disk. I am assuming that upgrade disk gonna cost 50 bucks n full disk 250.
I did read your post. Thanks for the reference but I am still suspicious.

People don't know about this.....
You have to remember, most people do not know as much about computers as we do.
As for being suspicious, I haven't tried it, so I can't help any there...
