I had another 4 updates this morning, plus the usual MSE update & as you can see 2 of them were installed twice. No reboot & all went well.

With the exception of KB3032359 which is from this week's updates, the other Windows Updates (as opposed to the MSE one) were all from last month's list. Had you already installed them last month?

Seffrid. You have actually raised an interesting point, that may need to be kept in mind. Those updates were actually installed in Feb 15.
But yesterday I ran Win Disc Clean Up as Administrator to clear out all the old Windows Updates & it seems that may be the reason for reinstalling some of them this morning. This seems to indicate that Disc Clean Up may actually remove some updates, even those that have been installed 2 months ago.

Mine was freezing up too, but it was caused by the wrong display driver that I had installed. Plus, it needed to be cleaned up. It's running better now.

I kept having (kb3021952) and (kb3032359) wanting to re install although they were already showing as installed.

Have run run Win Disc Cleaner in the last few days?. That's what I think caused my computer to reinstall those 2 updates today.

My experience of cleaners designed to freshen up the registry and system files is that they cause more problems than they cure. I don't go near them these days.

Including CCleaner? I've heard it's more "safe" than others, but still I haven't touched the registry cleaner part of it. The registry is just so sensitive I'm afraid I would mess something up.

Any cleaner has the capability to be dangerous including CCleaner.

I use it to look through and clean the registry of any old programs that I've removed, I always make the backup, run the scan, and still look at every entry.

I haven't been at all impressed with CCleaner. I've tried using it in the past only to get less than happy results so now I only use it to wipe HDDs, mostly to torture test new ones. I had to disable every feature except that one and take it out of the start up folder because, otherwise, it acted like a virus, running up my CPU usage and interfering with some of my programs. When I close the program after using it, I have to go into Windows Process Manager to actually kill the process which was still running, again acting like a virus.

I have had excellent luck using Glary Utilities. It has, among many other things, an extremely conservative registry cleaner that only removes entries that don't point to anything. I've never had a problem with it.

Very helpful comments everybody , thing that confuses me about CCleaner is this issue has only shown up after last tuesdays update . I never once had this issue before and i have used CCleaner regularly .

One thing to note about CCleaner and a ton of other "free" programs out there these days , if you don't go with the CCleaner "portable" version it installs a "pup".

This can be confirmed by running "Eset" online scanner but you must check enable "pups" detection and "check" the boxes of the advanced detection options beforehand.

So far "Eset" is the only on demand scanner i have used that picks up these "pups" since many companies have declassified pups and do not pick up on them anymore.

Couple of users @BC having same issue here:

KB3021952 (Feb "Cumulative" Update for IE) invloves a "bundled" update, it includes KB3023607. KB3032359 (March "Cumulative" Update for IE) is "bundled" it includes KB3040335 & KB3023607 (Again???) KB3032359 allegedly supersedes KB3021952 but both are needed along with KB3023607 to have a fully patched system. The problem occurs when Windows Update Cleanup (deepclean) is run after all patches are installed, it removes KB3023607, the "bundled" update from BOTH months as "superseded":

The KB's 3021952 & 3032359 (5.2mb) that are continually removed, re-offered/installed... lather, rinse, repeat... are actually the bundled component KB3023607 which gets removed by deepclean.

RANT ON: Micro$oft should consider renaming their "bundled" updates, more often than not it seems they are actually bungled updates. And while we're at it WHY do I have/need 3, count 'em, 3 "Cumulative" Updates for IE installed; KB2976627 (yet ANOTHER of those bungled, oops bundled updates) KB3021952 & KB3032359????? /RANT OFF

It's probably related to this: MS Update 3033929 Causing Reboot Loop...

Reboot loop problem being reported by lot of users turns out to be problem with dual-boot & Grub bootloader:

KB3033929 fails to install and cause a minor "infinite" loop - Microsoft Community(see michaelp52 reply)

CCleaner recently included some sort of resident monitoring function.

You can disable it in the Monitoring tab (Options > Monitoring).

As I said, I disabled everything except disk wiping and I still had to close a CCleaner process in Task Manager. It also inserted itself in the start menu and I had to remove that. It's like a bloody virus!

Thats it , i don't like bloody viruses , CCleaner has to go.


One thing to note though is that only since last tuesday and the latest updates has any problem developed.

In the Microsoft Community quite a few are saying it's the windows disc cleanup utility that is causing a few of the latest updates to keep coming up for reinstall.

It has been brought to MS's attention and supposedly they are working on a fix.

Yeah i know but some maybe blaming CCleaner for what windows update cleanup is responsible for. I never had issues with CCleaner portable either.

fwiw, i only run CCleaner file cleanup and it's never caused me problems.
Yes, I have cleaned files i wish i had kept, but it was my choice to delete those files.
So, there is a learning curve with CCleaner, and everything else.

I have run the Registry tool to see what it shows, but i don't run it to do a "cleanup".
I just see what it reports, and if i see something i feel is "wrong", i work on it...and manually clean it if need be.

I don't run WU Cleanup unless I can get a LOT of space recovered...
So I may run it 1-2 times per year.

When it was first released i could recover up to 10GB space, so i used it.
Now, i only see a few hundred MB to be cleaned, and that's not worth it to me ...

By Windows Update cleanup are you talking about the standard Windows Disk Cleanup. I use Disk cleanup maybe once every few weeks.
