I've tried going to my computer's hardware and installing drivers for the audio device- but the audio device isn't detected in there either. Also, ive tried to install audio drivers for my motherboard (ASRock H61M-VS), but even after that I cannot find my device anywhere.
If this helps, I am plugging in an earforce charlie headset into my computer. (Ear Force Charlie Recertified - Turtle Beach, Inc.)

Please help! I cant stand the red 'X' over my sound symbol!
:P

First item, make sure the Integrated Audio (on board or whatever its called in the BIOS) is enabled.

Second, Install the Intel motherboard chipset drivers (INF driver) then the VIA HD Audio driver from the AS Rock downloads. H61 Motherboard Series Manufacturing - ASRock Inc.

If it still shows the "red x", go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel, Playback section. Your "Speakers" (the VIA HD Audio) should be set as the default playback device. If it is shown but disabled, enable it and then set it as default. If its not shown, RIGHT click in a blank area in that panel and check to show Disabled and Disconnected devices. Then if its shown, you can make it the default audio playback device.

Post back after you go through these procedures on the status.

Thanks so much! Installing the drivers worked instantly.
(I guess it didn't occur to me to install the INF driver ALONG with the VIA HD driver.)
