Dear All,

I hope this is the correct forum to ask this question - if not can a Mod move it to the appropriate place?

I have fixed a colleague's laptop. It was running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with 1Gb memory and I gather that it prefers at least 2Gb.

Given that it is running with 1Gb (which I guess is the minimum), what is the recommended amount of memory for a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installation?

Thanks in advance

Zaph

Microsoft says 1GB min for 32 bit OS and 2GB min for 64 bit OS. Real world, 2GB minimum for a 32 bit OS. The reason to use a 64 bit OS is that it will address more than 4GB of RAM. If you have 4GB or less there is no real reason to have a 64 bit OS, unless you are planning to add more than 4GB of RAM. A 64 bit OS uses more memory than a 32 bit thus less is left for programs.

Thanks fireberd.

I know that Windows likes to chomp on RAM.
