I was using my computer earlier today.

When I left, I rebooted the computer, but did not stick around for the reboot process.

When i just came back to my office, I had a black DOS screen with the words

Missing Operating System...

I manually turned off the computer, and turned it back on

The computer started normally, with no Safe Mode option, and no indication that the computer had recovered from a crash.

This is a recently purchased Lenovo Refurb from Newegg

Had a look at the logs but didn't see anything that called my attention.

- Enter BIOS and check to see if the HDD is the fist on the boot list.
- Download ftp://ftp.sac.sk/sac/utildiag/hwi_586.zip Extract to any folder and run it. Go to your disk under Drives and look on SMART. Is there anything not Green?

It's not a laptop, it is a Lenovo ThinkCentre desktop.
My boot drive is the 500MB drive, and the second drive is an external 4TB backup drive.

What is your 500MB drive S.M.A.R.T? Does it has any alert?

It could have tried to boot from the USB HDD and didn't find the OS.
Did you enter BIOS and check to see if the HDD is the fist on the boot list?

This is odd, I have never seen a boot menu like this before.
First before you get into the boot menu, you have to pick one of three startup boot options.
1.) Automatic boot sequence

2.) Primary boot sequence
3.) Error boot sequence
I guess it have been a while since I looked at a boot sequence menu

When I went into the boot menu, I found that there was a boot option in there that I did not recognize.
Network 1: IBA GE Slot 00C8 v1381
This was selected as # 1 (I have no idea what that is)
Second was my Hard Drive
Third was the CD/DVD drive

Fourth was the backup drive, which is 4TB, and contains my daily backup and sys image.
Even though the boot should jump to the next option if it doesn't find a boot sector on the first option, I reordered them to the HD first.

Any Idea what the Network 1: IBA option is?
From the very little I could find on this, it seems to be some sort of Wake On Lan option.

Network boot is when you boot, not from the local disk, but from a disk on the network. And the computer works more as a terminal than like a PC

That's kinda what it sounded like. This was an off lease business computer.
I would have no use for that function. I am guessing it would be safe to exclude.
