Solved Mouse Suggestions?

I recently installed an SSD and have everything working great.

My only area to improve is the mouse.

I purchased 2 Microsoft Wireless Mobile 4000s and they both have lost the middle click ability to use Universal Scroll (Both less than 2 mos. old)

Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, wants me to pay to send it to them (unlike most cos. that provide a shipping label) and it is not worth the trouble.

I also have a Maxell Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: Maxell 191051 Ergomotion Optical Mouse.

This works, but is uncomfortable.

I'm not a gamer, so all I'm really interested in is smooth operation and reliability.

Like to spend in the $50 range.

Any suggestions?

i don't suppose you want another Microsoft mouse ,but.... i recommend the arc touch mouse.

If the mouse worked before you installed your SSD it's not the mouse. It's probably the mouse program. Make sure you have all the Windows Up Dates. Microsoft will give you the option to update the mouse driver on their own mouse and keyboard if their is one. Go to your mouse program and set it to default. Now if you have a program like for gaming that changes the default setting you will have to go through that program and check the settings.

Don't know why you would spend $50 for a mouse.
I've found these indestructable.
Logitech Cordless Desktop Keyboard and Mouse - Walmart.com

You can throw away the keyboard, but I use that too.
And I game with them too.
In the end, hand comfort - "feel" - rules, so you might not like it.
I've always had good luck with Logitech.

I have used Logitech mice exclusively and never had the first problem with them. Wore out the left click and bottom pads on one once though....but was good until the end! I got a Logitech M500 a few years ago and it has just enough buttons on it for me, and is very comfortable. On the left curved side, it has 2 buttons(back/forward), clickable middle wheel that also tilts if you want it to, and a button that "unlocks" the scroll wheel for extreme scrolling. I didn't think I would ever use that feature, but when going through documents with quite a few pages, it is a fantastic. Good software as well.......can reprogram all of the buttons, and customize it quite a bit. All that said, it doesn't have too much stuff on it, you can game with it, but it's not a gaming mouse in my opinion. I think they run about $30-40 now.......I think it was about $60 when I got mine.

Hiyya Paul mate I personally like this GIGABYTE - PC Peripherals - Mouse - Gaming - M6900 it's a wired one but there again I prefer wired.

Good for gaming and graphics though I do not game very much they tell me it is good and doesn't cost an arm and a leg like some of the others do. I pad $22 + shipping for mine

Thanks for the info - it looks good and I'll check it out.

On another note, I was on a different forum and a guy said he transferred his HDD to SSD and had poor speeds.

I said I did the same thing until I did a clean install.

Another guy said he has always transferred HDDs to SSds with no problem.

He then said my write speeds were much slower than his ( then said it was a clean install - HAH).

Could you look at these tests and tell me what you think - the Atto and Crystal Disc were done today, and I only have a week to return it if it is truly failing.

The 2nd one on right with blue background is his.
The rest are mine.

I didn't know that.

I went to Microsoft keyboard and mouse center and intellipoint and chose Universal Scroll.

Wouldn't apply.
When Microsoft did the remote, his worked, mine didn't.

Have you ever updated to the Intel AHCI controller driver or are you still using the Microsoft AHCI driver? That will probably boost your other read/write speeds a little bit.

I just looked and Logitech's website showed the M500 mouse for $29.99, an excellent value for that mouse. It is corded, I don't know what your feelings are on that, I personally hate a wireless mouse for anything other than a laptop, but that is just me.

No probs PSC my mate Gary has one of these too and he reckons it's very acceptable for the graphical stuff cos of the DPI specs

I did install the Intel ACHI controller.

I looked at your suggestion, but I prefer wireless.

I have a corded mouse I got from Walmart for $6, when I had to do a restore and needed a wired mouse- and it is fine- even does Universal Scroll.

I'm just looking for a more customizable wireless model.

Heyya KB I'm the other way round - I lose the wireless ones too easy and my wires all run under and around the back of mt deskies so I don't have the cords for the KB or mouse trailing across desktops..

I thought I had installed the ACHI Intel driver, but it must be the Microsoft one.
