My mouse takes a full minute to be usable after boot. the first time this happened I did a system restore and it fixed it. It came back, I did another restore, it came back again I did it 3 more times like this. I am current on all updates. I am running a asus px658d-e board. All the drivers are up to date. I am running the most recent bios, I am using a usb keyboard and mouse. I have tried booting with the mouse in each usb port with no improvement. I deleted the mouse in the device manager and rebooted. it reinstalled the driver and the problem did not improve. I am running win 7 pro 64bit. any ideas

thanks

Hello cixus. Welcome to the Forum.

Sounds like a failing mouse. You should do some tests.

  • Can you test it on another computer?
  • Can you borrow another known working mouse and try it on your computer?
  • Do other USB devices work OK?

You do not need to load the mouse drivers to test the mice. The generic drivers will do fine.

the mouse works on other computers, and another mouse behaved the same way on this one. other usb devices work also. it loads the built in logitech driver, I don't have to install a separate one.

thanks

Have you tried a clean boot to identify any third party software issues? Or at the very least checked your start up menu for items that can be taken out of the start up.

Thanks for posting back and letting us know.
We all learn something from the solution to these kinds of unusual issues.

Now if I could only recall the info on demand.....;)

Hi cixuz. I just want to confirm a similar issue. My problem is not with the mouse but with thumb drives. I plug in a thumb drive and it takes (darn near exactly) one minute for it to be recognized by the system and then I can access its contents with Windows Explorer.

The problem for me was also caused by the MIDI controller service named "NIHardwareService". In my case setting Startup Type to "Automatic (Delayed Start)" was not sufficient. I had to set it to "Manual". then when I rebooted and plugged in a thumb drive, the Explorer popup came up almost immediately and Windows Explorer was ready to display the thumb drive's contents right away.

Thanks for this thread! :D

Sorry to bring up this old thread but I have this issue and can't figure out how to solve it as it worked fine for ages I installed a SSD and it was fine for a few boots and now isn't. As my mouse and keyboard take like 10ish seconds before I can use them after windows has booted which is annoying as that's 1/3 of my boot time.

Where do I find these options to change between auto and manual? Is it under hardware? (not on my comp atmo)

Just check that every time you restart the pc , windows try to reinstall driver or not , if so remove all USB driver in device manager not mouse driver and restart the system and let the windows install all drivers, you can also check USB mouse setting in bios just change the setting no matter current state.
