My current hard drive setup:

1. 500 GB drive: 2 250 GB partitions: 1st (C) windows 7, program files and some other files, almost full, 2nd (D) files, some apps, almost full too

2. 1TB drive: 1 partion (H) : about 400 GB applications, most of them in one folder, files taking up the remaining space, about 100 GB free space

I have bought a new 1TB drive. I want to move the apps in H to then new one, but keep the files on H. In the future any new apps will be installed in the new drive, and any new files will be put in H. My problem is that since the files I want to move are from applications, some may stop working if moved. Also many shortcuts will break. I want to find a way to keep things working without reinstalling/reconfiguring a lot of apps.

My current plan:
1. connect both drives (H and the new one) to another pc
2. move the apps folder to the new drive
3. connect the new one to the pc, assign letter H
4. connect the old one, let windows assign whatever letter they want

I think this will work since the paths will stay the same (currently the apps on H are at "H:\Games -- Apps\" which should be the same if I do this) I am not sure though.

Can anyone confirm if this will work / suggest a better way?

As long as the partition with the programs on it gets the same drive letter (H:) then you should be okay.
