Hi,

I want to reinstall Win 7 Home Premium on a new SSD in my Lenovo K320. It is not clear to me in the user guide that I can reinstall to a different hard drive. If I install the hard drive (it currently has XP on it and no data I want to save), mark it as the C drive, will the recovery program reinstall it to the new drive? (After thorough backup :-).)

Is this question better for a Lenovo specific forum?

Thanks!

Cheers,
Pogopossum

Welcome to SevenForums Pogopossum.

What size SSD are you planning to use?

Would you post a snapshot of your present disk managment display using
THIS procedure. Thanks.
HOW TO POST A SNAPSHOT OF DISK MANAGEMENT DISPLAY
Run disk management:
WIN | type DISKMGMT.MSC | ENTER
WIN
is the key with the wavy flag.

Maximize the output of Disk Management:
ALT-Spacebar key combo (this pops up a menu) followed by X key (selects Maximize) |
Drag the field separators (such as between Status and Capacity) to show entire field. This is very important, otherwise, needed info is not visible.

Make a snapshot:
WIN | type SNIPPING | ENTER | New
Drag the cursor around the area you want to snip.
File | Save as | select save location and name | Save

Post the snapshot:
Upload a File or Screenshot in Seven Forums

The screen shot is from the Lenovo with Win 7 installed - I want to add a 40GB SSD to act as my bootdrive.

OK. I think I've figured out part of my confusion. You appear to have used "hard drive" when you really meant SSD (Solid State Drive). Do you have a Win 7 DVD?

No, I have to restore from a partition on the existing hard drive. I do have a repair disk that I made when I got the PC.

You do have an interesting situation which I've never faced before.

You have a 25 GB OEM partition.

I do not know if Lenovo requires the oem partition to be on the same drive as the system partition.

Myself I always get rid of the oem partitions, but I also have win 7 iso files.

Maybe a couple of the chaps who have actually faced this situation can speak up.

True, you can put the system on your new ssd but I don't think you really want to sacrifice 25 of your 40 GB, leaving you with only 15 GB for win 7.
