MSVCR80.DLL Missing

I keep getting this error for some software i launch.


It first started when installing Itunes' new update... i then reinstall itunes to see if the problem would go away but it did not.

I also get the error when i launch Nuendo software - although the software still works anyway. How ever itunes simply does not work at all since this problem

I can't work out what i have to do to fix it, i don't want to reinstall my entire OS for this tiny little issue which is what everything seems to suggests.

Any suggestions?

That DLL is probably needed by iTunes (or other software on your system). DLLs are components of software (programs, applications), that may be used by more than one software. As is the case with this one. MSVCR80.DLL stands for "MicroSoft Visual C++ Runtime 2005 (version 8)" and the file is a part of that package. It is a good idea to install it anyway, as other software may need it and won't run if it is not packaged along with it (or included in its setup program, etc.). You can download it from Microsoft's webpage "Latest Supported Visual C++ Downloads" (that is a link). It's also a good idea to download those other Visual C++ Runtimes (2008, 2010, etc.), but you only need Visual C++ runtimes, and not Visual Studio, so don't click on those links. These are the latest runtimes and may be needed by other software so to avoid this from happening again, I repeat, download:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package MFC Security Update

Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package MFC Security Update



Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable Package (x86, x64, ARM)



And install them. Only good things will result from this Those are all that you need. Also if you play games, DirectX 9, of course.

That is definitely not recommended (you can get viruses online if not from trusted sources), although I've never gotten a virus by doing that (at least not from DLL-files.com) indeed. You're better off following my suggestion, really. But if you're using portable software and need to have it on the run (read: USB pendrive), then yes, you may need to put needed DLLs in the app's folder. One DLL may not be enough though.

That's perfectly fine, it's just a matter of whether you trust it enough and if your system is important enough to risk getting things from unknown sources (that website can't be held accountable for all the DLLs available on it for download). In this case, I'd say it's even abnormal. Why get a DLL file from a third-party website when it should work better in its complete package (there are several DLLs needed for Visual C ++ executables to work, you know), which has an installer and is distributed by the official source.
It's like getting some poor-quality ice-cream from a dubious individual at the corner at the street... when you can get the real deal at the shop...

Plus, the links I provided will install the up-to-date runtimes. And I don't think you would rather download DirectX for example (or OpenGL, etc.) DLLs one by one from that website when a game tells you you lack some required DX*.DLL... That's definitely not a good technique and it will get you into trouble.

Upon reviewing this as well as a similar thread on problems being seen with the APSdaemon.exe, msvcr80.dll, and Itunes I ran into a very similar problem once some of those Fruit company updates went on but not right away. Not it took a day or so and every time an error kept popping up during the night.

The rememdy while it won't help ITunes any as far as getting it to run again on 7 is the total removal of not only that but following the order of items being removed as instructed in the about.com article seen at How To Fix Msvcr80.dll is Missing or Not Found Errors (iTunes, etc.)

Now once you have all the Fruit company items uninstalled by way of the Programs and Features ignore the rest while running a security check to scan for any bugs(malware, virus) is optional as well as no need for any registry cleaner to stop the error messages. Instead open up the Start>Run command line and type "msconfig" and press enter or click on the ok button to open that up. Then choose the Selective Startup option and go to the Startup tab to see if you find the Itunes Helper item to uncheck that in particular and then simply click the apply button. The next time you restart the system the errors should have disappeared entirely.
