multiple BSOD while Gaming

Hi,

I have been experiencing BSOD while playing Modern Warfare 2 and L4D2. I have had these games installed since i upgraded from XP to Win 7 at the start of January. I have only been getting these BSODs since the beginning of febuary i think the first was on the 3rd Febuary. Although the crashes do seem to be getting more frequent and sometimes dont create a minidump file.

I have attached the contents of the minidump folder. i am having problems accessing them due to symbols being incorrect and i dont know how to solve this.

I should also state i was having the same issues under xp which was one reason i upgraded to 7 thinking it might solve the problem which it seemed to do for the first month.

im beginning to think that it could be a hardware fault somewhere but i just dont know where. plus i have always had a problem with this motherboard and accepting 4 sticks of ram hence only 3 installed. (computer fails to POST with 4 sticks)

If someone could have a look at the minidump files nad point me in the right direction of where the fault may lie that would be great.

this has happened with the latest nvidia drivers 196.21 (not beta) and the previous set of drivers 195...

I have experienced the same issues with the last 2 releases of nvidia drivers.
Running 2x 8800gts g92 xfx cards. Tis rather annoying. Hope they make a fix in the next set of drivers

version 191.07 seems to be stable for me though.

6 memory dumps, 5 different BSOD errors ( STOP 0xD1; STOP 0x3D; 2 STOP 0x3B; STOP 0x1A; STOP 0xA) with 6 different causes ( memory_corruption; hardware; dxgkrnl.sys; win32k.sys; ntkrnlmp.exe; hidusb.sys)

Looks like a hardware problem to me (due to the wide variety of errors and causes). Try all these hardware diagnostics:

Additional tests for certain specific circumstances:
Try this free video stress test: FurMark: Graphics Card Stability and Stress Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net

FurMark Setup:
- If you have more than one GPU, select Multi-GPU during setup
- In the Run mode box, select "Stability Test" and "Log GPU Temperature"
Click "Go" to start the test
- Run the test until the GPU temperature maxes out - or until you start having problems (whichever comes first).
- Click "Quit" to exit

Prime95 Setup:
- extract the contents of the zip file to a location of your choice
- double click on the executable file
- select "Just stress testing"
- select the "Blend" test. If you've already run MemTest overnight you may want to run the "Small FFTs" test instead.
- "Number of torture test threads to run" should equal the number of CPU's times 2 (if you're using hyperthreading).
The easiest way to figure this out is to go to Task Manager...Performance tab - and see the number of boxes under CPU Usage History
Then run the test for 6 to 24 hours - or until you get errors (whichever comes first).
The Test selection box and the stress.txt file describes what components that the program stresses.

Also, please remove these older drivers that were loaded at the time of the crash. Don't use Windows Update or the Update drivers function of Device Manager.
Please use the following instructions to locate the most currently available drivers to replace the one's that you uninstall OR remove:

How To Find Drivers:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to

Thansk for the reply usasma,

Ill run those H/W Diagnostics and post the results when complete,

Quick question regarding the removal of older drivers that you listed. How do i go about this? If i download the new drivers and install does this uninstall the older versions or do i need to remove them manually?

I think myself that its prob hardawre related. Ran memtest for 20 passes with zero errors so i think i can count that out. could it be an overheating problem?

No, don't install them over the old ones (also known as an upgrade) - it leaves too much to chance.
Always (when having problems) remove the old programs using the uninstaller - then install the freshly downloaded drivers.

In the case of the ASACPI.SYS - you'll have to uninstall the device from the Device Manager...System Devices. Then select the AsAcpiIns.exe file and run it to install the new driver.

It could be almost anything hardware related that's causing this. Also, there are some lower level drivers (such as antivirus, firewall, and the ASACPI.SYS one) that can mimic the hardware problems also.

ok a quick update,

i have updated the drivers as per previous instructions.

memory came back with no errors and all slots seem fine,

Furmark maxed my graphics card out at 80 C (no load 56C) with no problems encounterd,

Prime95 was run for 12 hours with no errors,

i also reduced my memory to 2Gb,

i have also rolled my nvidia drivers back to version 191.07 as suggested by IcarusNZ

Haven't had a BSOD yet so im now think that as i seems to pass all the H/W tests it must be a driver issue. Any ideas why the last two driver sets seem to be having a problem?

Think my next step would be to install the newest drivers to check this theory. Any thoughts?
