Wasn't sure what this qualified as to where to put the thread. But...
My boyfriend created a new folder on my desktop and put some music and comedy MP3s in there to burn for my daughter.... Now the file will not delete off the desktop, it won't move it wont do anything; it says only the Administrator can do that and of course I am the administrator so I am asking how can I delete this file. The only thing I was allowed to do was copy it but that's all. I was allowed to delete the copy. He said he did not change any permissions or anything like that; simply created a file and put the MP3s in it and burned them then not able to do anything... Please help!!

You can see if this helps by taking ownership of the file.

Then try to delete it.

Nope I changed the folder permissions to include everyone; as taking ownership is not working; The message I get is that "You Require permission from Shannon-PC-23-J\Shannon" That is me and my account on my system, so I am admin and it shows I have full access to file; but will not let me delete it.

I already am the owner; that's why I don't understand why it keeps telling me I need to give myself permission to delete the file. Doesn't make sense.

if you check the burner drive, do you see any files "waiting to write"?

Nope, nothing waiting to write; I thought of that too.

so when you attempt to delete the folder, you get the require permission error?

Do you get the same error when trying to delete the "file(s)" only?

When you added the "Everyone" group to the security, did you add it with "Full control"?

I think the problem is that the 2 folders inside the main folder will not allow me to take ownership and will not display the owner either. This file is impenetrable (sp).

Yup; nope and yup.

When I try to delete the files in the folder; I get an access denied but I am unable to change anything at all with those. Will not display the owner and will not allow me to change everything even using the take ownership utility that I downloaded before.

on the parent folder, go to properties -
Security / advanced / Change permissions

Then check the box that says: Replace all child objects with inheritable permissions from this object.

See if you get an error.... IF YOU DO: You'll have to inherit the permissions from the parent folder FROM the sub folder.

I do have a live version of Fedora I think but I do not know how to use it; which is why it is still on disk and an older version. I would have no idea how to do it from there; thanks though!!
