hi everyone.
Can somebody help me how to show all ram that is running? Like when I open the task manager it shows only 8 gb ram also in properties too.

The os that I'm running is windows 7 64 bit,
Asus rampage II gene ( can go up to 12 gb ram)
intel i7 920
6x - Corsair XMS3 TW3X4G1333C9DHX 4GB DDR3 Dual Channel memory kit
gts 250 1 gb
2x Western Digital WD1001FALS Caviar Black 1TB
and another 320 gb hard drive

So if anybody can help me solve the problem I'm very thankful for it.

Type msconfig in run or search - in the window - boot - advanced options - make sure "maximum memory" is deselected. If this sounds a bit weird - check bios first as below, and maybe select it if that doent fix it - i read this solution a while back, and Im not sure which way, but it is deselected in my OS.

If it is already deselected go into your bios - this is where it is in my Asus P5E bios as follows.
There is a setting in the bios - that should be set to enabled with a 64 bit OS - under chipset advanced - northbridge configuration - memory remap feature - enable this - worth checking.

I'm not really sure, because there are certain websites thats says it supports 12 gb ram or even 24 gb or ram. So right now I have 12 gb ram on my motherboard but it only appears 8 gb ram

Other than the standard 32 / 64 bit limits for windows, Windows 7 basic is 8GB limit, Windows 7 Home Prem. ib 16GB limit, you need Windows 7 Pro to Ultimate to Use anything from 16GB to 192GB AND I have the Asus P5E MO also the only way I could get the board to reg. my full 24GB was to use all standard presets and not save anything not even a bios password. The minute you make a saved change the Memory would only register 16GB.

24GB DDR3 Ram, Core i7 970 and only a HD5670??? something is NOT right here..

With the money you used to buy 18GB of RAM, you'd have bought a GTX 580 and still having a kick a** PC!

And probably a SSD, but hey, who am i to judge? :p

not a gamer so the video card works just fine for me and my 24 Lcd................ a SSD still to pricey for the bang, even now the Sata2 vs the Sata3 in windows system rating show's no major speed improvement....

Can you spare 4 gigs?
Just kidding.

I was gonna purchase 4 more gigs to bring my total to 8,
but I talked myself out of it.

I'm not a gamer and don't use my computer
for nothing more than a HTPC, so 4 gigs seem to be enough. I figured I buy
another WD RE3 2502ABYS Gb drive and raid it. Unraided, it's just a tab faster
than my WD6400AAKS. I'm always looking for faster transfer speeds. But one day
I'll get 4 more gigs.

Even if he says he isn't a gamer, an SSD would make a world of difference compared to the extra RAM. Seriously, +18GB? For what, especially since you're not running games? Is it some kind of server or rendering machine or something?

I do use it as the backbone of my home network (2 desktops, 3 laptops, netbook and iPad) accesses 75 GB's Software / 95 GB's Music / 80 GB's Video's. And I do some video editing. Even if I had a SSD drive for the OS the transfer rates to and from my other 3 drives wouldn't have been measurably better and 5.5 TB in SSD drives would be just a little pricey even for me.........

SSD isn't just about transfers.

Haven't you heard about access time ? Things like fast boot and fast program opening.

Oh I understand........ So ballparking figures a SSD drive runs about $2.00+ a Gig VS HHD .10 cent a Gig. And what am I getting, a little bit faster Boot, 20 sec VS 40 sec, a program takes 5 sec to open instead of 10 sec. With the WD Sata 3/64bit it's insanely fast now...... why pay pay $1035/2070 just for a OS drive and up to $9000 in storage. I paid less than $500 for 5.5TB...

~Cheers~

Actually, even storing All media on Spinners, everything is actually faster.
SSDs make a lot of sense for the OS and applications. Something liek a 40-80GB will be more than fine.
The rest of things, especially Media (Music,Videos,Photos etc) will not see a large benefit from it, at least not enough to justify the cost if you have a lot.

For 1, Spinning drives (even in raid 0) can not come close to comparing to a SSD.
And when used for the OS and apps, it makes a huge difference.

For the DATA thats on Spinners, its actually a bit faster because that drive is not busy doing regualy OS tasks and can focus soley on retrieving the DATA you ask for. So they are more responsive.

Trust Me. Once you've ran your PC on a SSD drive, you'll not want the OS installed on a spinning drive again. I can honestly say, the SSD drive was the 1 upgrade (and best) that had immediatly apparent results. Far more obvious than a CPU or RAM upgrade for example.

As far as RAM goes, if you do not run a lot of VMs or doing very heavy advanced Photoshop or HD Video Rendering work, that much RAM is probablly going to be wasted.

I know many think more is better, but this is only true depending what type of work you do with the PC.
I do alot of HD Video encoding, and some Photoshop work, but seldom use all of my RAM (8GB)

Not knocking you here, just something to consider.

If these are things you do not do .. or rarely do ... you may be better off running 6GB and put that extra into other areas. GPU or SSDs.
