No problem. I'd check with Malwarebytes too, as I was saying. That error isn't normal when trying to open a local file. Something could be a little out of place. Did you install a 3rd party firewall or antivirus? Might want to remove it/them to test, if so.

If that doesn't help, do a system restore to before this started happening.

there's only two security systems you need.... avast home user antivirus and spyware search and destroy.

If you put anything else on your system your wasting ram and processes.

Avast antivus ..... get it and delete the one that came with your system... it's free and the best online.

spybot search and destroy.... use real time protection even if you don't use teatimer and your safe when surfing the internet.

yes I've tested and trust me. that's all you need.

How did you test all apps to compare? You had the free time? And why should we trust you? Do you have credentials? Do you have performance benchmarks handy?

yes the windows search in 7 is going to be one of your biggest process hogs. Unless you use search alot you should completely disable it.

three processes are going to run continuously when you have that feature available. and two svchost also to help them keep tabs on all your files and file changes.
If you move a file all 5 of them go to work making changes so they know where that file is... etc

its the one largest RAM and CPU hog in 7. unless you search all the time you don't need it and it's just a resource hog. It's one of the only features I hate about 7.

Fix for problem

This is a little drastic:

In regedit delete or renam:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]

Logout and login.

All your explorer setting will be reset to defaults.

Hi,

This sounds like your index has become corrupt to an extent.

Although I cannot guarentee this is the exact problem, it seems to me the most likely.

To rebuild the index go to control panel and select Indexing Options. Then click the Advanced button at the bottom and then click on the button saying "Rebuild" and say yes to the confirmation message.

Hope this helps and if possible let me know if it does so I know it works for sure in the future!

Regards
Dave
