Need help with scrolling malfunction

I have Win 7 Pro and my browser is FireFox v. 30 - lately when I use the scroll bar it goes out of control and wildly scrolls the pages rapidly up and down. Most of the time I can stop the unwanted action by repeatedly clicking on the scroll button. It is not a crisis situation but somewhat annoying when it occurs and I lose the page I wanted to use.

I have not, so far,noticed this uncontrolled scrolling issue in other programs and applications which suggests that it may not be a Windows related aberration, but I am far from an expert in Win 7 issues.

Has anyone had a similar problem and if so have they found a way to resolve it?

Frank try looking in Mouse in the Control Panel and check the wheel scroll rate.

Do you have the problem if you use the mouse scroll wheel?. I sometimes get a scrolling problem when using the mouse wheel, but can usually stop it by left clicking.
I have a feeling it is something to do with the mouse.
What sort of mouse are you using?.

Good suggestion Ranger it may well lie within the mouse software - if it has any. Most of the mice I have ever used have come with software So knowing what it is is what we want.

Sticky Keys or Auto-Scroll

Check for "sticky" keys on your keyboard (the spacebar scrolls the page in FF).

Also check that the auto-scroll function (mouse wheel button click) isn't being triggered.

The Auto-Scroll Indicator symbol should appear if auto-scroll has been activated.

Thanks to Ranger, ICit2lo and lehnerus for responses and suggestions.

I have a Dell USB Laser Mouse. The mouse came with no software disk, but when I open properties on the mouse logo I get a settings screen. The scroll wheel works fine and the auto scroll button appears when the attachment is opened, but in Mozilla it behaves similarity to the scroll side bar and often scrolls rapidly - I can best describe the action to a slot machine at the casino - it spins the pages rapidly. Clicking with the left mouse button usually stops the spinning but a different screen than when the spinning started.

In settings I have the wheel set to scroll one screen at a time. All in all a very odd situation!

@FDM. Your problem seems to be very much the same as mine. I am using a Logitech Trackman Wheel USB mouse & although this problem occurs occasionally I have not been able to prevent it. It doesn't happen on a plague proportion basis so I just live with it.

Safe Mode, re-install FF or new FF profile?

If it only happens in FF, have you tried:

• Running FF in Safe Mode?
• Creating a new empty profile?
• Re-installing FF?

Sometimes corrupt FF profile files cause weird problems.
If it work properly with a clean profile, you can transfer your bookmarks, passwords, etc. into it.

I don't use Fire Fox, but the same problem occurs with Opera & also occurred when I was using Chrome. It also very occasionally happens when scrolling in large files in Windows.

Therefore I think it is a mouse related problem & nothing to do with a web browser. Of course one usually does a lot more scrolling with a web browser than in Windows files, so the problem is more likely to show up when on the web.

But as I have said it is only an occasional problem so I just live with it.

FDM is your system a Dell one?? because you can find the compatibility ifyou click on Compatibility in this site http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dfb&cs=28&sku=331-5076#top

No you certainly haven't caused any problem. I was thanking you for what you had said, in relation to FDM's problem. Perhaps it seems like I have hijacked the thread, but that is not my intention. I just added my experience with other browsers & with Windows just to show that Fire Fox may not be to blame.

Am still wondering what system that FDM has. If it were me I would just get another and maybe better mouse.
