Solved Nero Install Error 1158

I am trying to install Nero 2014. I have a previous version on this PC. When I try to install, it fails with Error 1158 (see screenshot). I have tried several things that have been suggested from doing a google search for this problem, such as running as Administrator and starting as "diagnostic startup" and I still get the same error. I tried installing it by starting Win 7 in Safe Mode (with and without networking) and it tries to install but one of the add ons that it needs (Microsoft XML 4.0 SP3) will not install in safe mode so it aborts.

I tried installing this on my Win 8.1 system and it installed without problems. The Win 8.1 was the full install, not a diagnostic startup, etc.

I posted on the Nero forum but what was suggested there did not help. My Win 7 system is relatively clean as I do not have a lot of startups. I do not have Skype or anything similar. I have MSE and Malwarebytes. Those are not loaded with the diagnostic startup, which also failed with the 1158 error so I assume what is in startup is not the issue.

Solved. I had to manually download and install Microsoft XML 4.0 SP3. Then install in Windows 7, using Windows 7 Compatibility Mode (and as Administrator).

The problem would appear to be in Nero 2014's installer program.

Good to see you got it sorted Jack .. Seems to happen a lot with Nero a google search showed many problems

Yeah, but nothing I found on the google search or on the Nero forum helped. I was on my own to try and find the fix, and if it wasn't "I know enough to be dangerous" I probably would not have stumbled across my fix. I have a dual boot system with Win 7 and Win 8.1 (on separate SSD's). It installed without problems in Windows 8.1 but not on Win 7.

Nero is still blaming the problem on everything else except their own installer program. Sadly, its typical of many companies "its not my problem". On these help type forums there are many posts with similar issue. A customer will have a problem and go to the vendor for help and the vendor, who is either unwilling to try and figure out what their problem is or can't figure it out, will "point the finger" at something else and then the customer is left holding the bag trying figure out what the problem is.
