Network printing - why not working?

We have 4 computers in a network. On 3 computers we use Windows 7 (one of them is the server), on one computer we use Windows XP. The printer is shared on the server. The test page printing works fine from the clients, but I would like to print from DOS. I attached the printer to the LPT3 port by the net use command (it writes OK at the cmd window). If I give PRINT /D:LPT3 C:\TEST.TXT command from the XP client, it work fine, but from the Win7 clients it doesn't do anything. How can I solve this problem?

It doesn't work because printing from DOS isn't supported in Windows 7, it wasn't even supported in Vista for that matter.

Although the requirement for this to work is > 64-bit support is available only on Windows 7 using the Virtual PC Windows XP Mode provided for free by Microsoft.

Thank you, but if the server is WinXP and the client is Win7, it also works fine, so I don't agree with your statement, that printing from DOS isn't supported in Windows 7.

If the server is XP then you are printing through that server which is the only reason it worked at all.

To print with Windows 7 "64 bit" through DOS, XP mode will be required and that software I linked to makes that point quite clearly which is why I quoted it in bold.

" they quote this from the page with the software.

From this we can ascertain that it is possible "with the software provided in the link" to print through DOS using Windows 7 "32" bit only. In fact printing through DOS hasn't worked since XP, unless you use the software I linked to.
