Neverwinter Nights 2 issues

I'm burning Build 7068 x86 right now. Afterwards I will install Built 7068 c64 and try playing NWN 2 on it. If that fails I will install the x86 version and try that way to see if x64 is the issue.

Yeah I installed it the night it was leaked. It has the same bug still. An user on Neverwinter Nights: Forum Index stated they had it work fine on Build 7000 x64 so it's apparently not x64 itself so much as all builds prior to 7000.

It worked on 7000 x64?
Hmm... I reinstalled my W7 because... well it doesn't matter really.
Anyway, now I've got the 7000 x64, but I haven't tried to install yet again yet because I also installed Windows XP Professional, and obviously it runs just fine on that.

But some day soon I'll install it again on my W7 system and see how that works out.

I have Win7 7000 actually. And it doesn't work for me. It'll load just fine. It'll run in the menu system (where you choose single or multiplayer or options) just fine. Once I enter the game though, and get a 3D representation of the world, it crashes after about 60 seconds.

Build 7100

Hello guys,

I am looking on this forum about nwn2 and I must add some of my observations. As you can see from the title I tried and I am still trying to run nwn2 on Win7 build 7100 (64b). Well I thought that with new build it will be better, but it looks like there are no miracles currently. So as you wrote here before, nwn2 still dosen't work.

Windows 7 build 7100
There's been a thread on this on the NWN2 forums. Apparently there will be a fix in build 7122 onwards, although that's of little help. However, if you go to the forum someone's posted a work-around using a file from Vista, which seems to work for everyone who has tried it

Neverwinter Nights: No 3D Card in Windows 7

The summary is near the bottom of page 4 of the thread, and includes a download link to the required file

Hope that helps - it worked fine for me

Edit: OK, I just read the posts further up and you need to be a member of he Bioware forums to see the fix - ok for legit game owners, but others may have a few problems.

I'm very suspicious of that, fix an OS because one game won't work on it? Also - what did they fix on 7122? It's a DX problem stopping NWN2 from running hence only DX needs fixing if it's not the game at fault.

I think it's a lot of nonsense tbh.

I suspect the fix is along the lines of "make the file in question report in some old obscure way to programs like NWN2 and Galactic Civilisations II cos they have old methods of doing things"

Good news, as of 7127 NWN2 is working fine with no messing about. The rumours of increased game compatibility post 7122 seem to be correct :)

Time for you get download 7127, why bother 70xx anyway ?

Lots of ppl said that 7127 works well and smooth.

unable to detect 3d card

i also have this problem and even tried to copy and past the old ini files into the nwn2 folder, like some one said, if i just get past this screen it probably will work, but it still tells me i havent got a 3d card, im quite sure tho that if we get past the video card check the game will run, so if any one could post were in the ini files or maybe the registry to change the settings for nwn 2 to check, it will make the game run. i hope that the other issuses wont come up after this tho =)

oh btw my build is: windows 7 7100, with all updates (i could find)

I never got it to work on 7100, but I'm using 7229 and it works flawlessly on 7229.

The problem, in a nutshell

I too had this problem. I am on Build 7100. I found out that somewhere after 7000 they went to DX 11.x and therein is the problem. 11.x dont like NWN 2 Gold (which is what I have). searching further I found the following to be the case:
To get NWN2 to run on Windows 7 - download this file - Click Here - take ownership of the original file (look in c:\windows\system32 or c:\windows\syswow64 depending on your flavor of OS), rename it (I recommend renaming the extension to something other than .dll in case you need the original file later on), then move the downloaded file into the same folder as the original. Good to go.

To get the NWN2 Toolset to function under Windows 7 - you need to manually install the actual DirectX 9.0c package. Best version to get is Microsoft's updated end-user redistributable, as this not only places the correct DirectX 9.0c files on your system, but will update any DirectX 10 files as well. The file can be found here - Click Here - download, unpack to any folder on your system, and run the dxsetup.exe file. The toolset will now run.

However I had the x64 build and so although the above works if you are using x86 it fails in x64. Because I forgot to note that u if you have x64 the files go in c:\windows\syswow64 and if you have x86 they go into c:\windows\system32
Enjoy...

I recently had to reinstall nwn 2 after not bothering to reinstall it when I installed W7 on the machine. Oddly enough the toolset worked back then. Anyways, I updated it all the way to 1.23. Ran into the problem with the game itself not working. Did the fix presented by raemann and it worked. Now I didn't think to test the toolset then. So I was happy. Then I tried the toolset and it CTD's at startup. I did run the directxredist (march 2009) when I first installed W7. So I didn't think much about the toolset fix. But seeing as it won't work now I thought I might as well see if anyone can make heads or tails off my problem. I have also disabled visual themes on the compability mode on the toolset exe file.

Anyways the CTD report told me this:
Description:
Stopped working

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: CLR20r3

I am currently redownloading the direct_mar2009_redist exe just in case I need it. But some people I talked to about this seem to hint towards it being a .net framework problem. They said it was a common vista/w7 bug. As to the solution they were rather tightlipped.

If any additional info is required to solve my problem, just ask and I will do my best to get it.

I have the exact same problem as above, I play on a persistent world and it is only on one map of that world otherwise everything else is just fine. There is no ground, the objects like trees, grass, etc., show, but not the ground. Funny thing about it, it worked flawlessly before, I re-installed the game awhile back, after deleting it off my computer to cut down on space, and now I have this problem.

To update further on my issues, I have solved the graphics glitches in NWN2. I had a gut feeling on this that at some point one of the Nforce driver updates had an adverse effect on my system. I went into device manager, went to the display adapters, update software, browse computer for driver software, let me pick from a list, then I chose probably the oldest driver from that list, the release date was about one year old. I figured I would start there and if I want I can move it forward.

I had a gut feeling about this and after all these years of troubleshooting and building my own computers, testing ram, and so on, working as a computer help desk agent, something was suspicious about this.

Well I can say all the game issues are solved things are back to way they should be, actually seems better now than it has for quite awhile. The graphics are flowing beautifully at cranked settings, no glitches, and so far, crossing my fingers, no BSODs since rolling back!

It makes me wonder about the current status of Nforce drivers? I don't think it is possible to make a driver backwards compatible forever, or is there something else going on here? I'm no programmer, software developer or engineer.
