Just converted a friend's 2005 vintage Sony Vaio FS730 laptop XP system to Windows 7. Sony has no drivers for this machine beyond XP. Their available Vista drivers seem to be for different hardware.

The machine runs OK, but there are no sound output devices using the windows default installed "HD audio codecs." Using this driver there are no output sound devices found (disabled and hidden included) but the driver appears to function. Plugging headphones/speakers into the jack gives no sound and nothing from the built in speakers.

I've downloaded the Realtek drivers version 2.73, uninstalled the existing drivers, and installed twice, but get a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) after installing.

The hardware code for the device from msinfo32 components is
Realtek
PNP Device ID HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0260&SUBSYS_104D0000&REV_1003\4&10F4C67C&0&0001

Any clues or suggestions on getting audio functioning on this machine would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for responding. Tried it twice in administrator mode, once running Vista Compatibility mode, no joy.

Received message "This update not intended for use on your computer model"

I fully agreed with your comment and ALMOST reverted to XP when I decided to search on the device code
FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0260&SUBSYS_104D0000&REV_1003\4&10F4C67C&0&0001
and on this site's page Download Windows Drivers - hdaudio\func_01&ven_10ec&dev_0260&subsys_104d0000
I looked for the most recent driver, I went with a Dell driver ftp://ftp.dell.com/audio/R306840.exe and surprise it worked. Sound was a bit low but after opening some of the controls and setting the volume to 100%, then setting volume equalization on it works great.

I knew doing something like this was possible after getting sound to work on my older Dell machine using another machine brand's driver.
