no dvd drive will work with my pc

it did work at one point and none of the bios settings have been changed if i try boot a linux distro it will say kernel panic and will not go any further with a usb and with installing any version of windows it just freezes at the start of the installer using a usb

I guess this would be a good time to ask for some screenshots of your drives - in BIOS, in Windows Explorer, in Disk Management. Expand all windows so we can read everything. Maybe something significant will pop out.

Have you tried a different power cable from the PSU to the optical drive?
