Welcome simonjohn to the windows 7 forums.
There are drivers on the hp site for your printer which I assume you have downloaded and installed???
If not, then go to hp and select support and drivers. put in your hplj 1102
and select which OS you want the drivers for.
Other than that, normally it is best to install the drivers before you plug your laserjet into your usb port.
Or are you trying to print to it via wireless?
lots of questions.
Also, if wireless, then the printer has to be setup for wireless properly, Assuming that you have read the documentation on setting up your printer wirelessly.

- I have dos 6.22, wfwg 3.11, win98, 2000 and xp VHD's available for testing. MS's Virtual PC works great.
