Nothing on my C: Drive will delete

I have C and Drive internally and an external drive also.

Can you rewrite that? I'm not sure I understand "C and Drive".

If you look in Windows Explorer, what drive letters do you see?

C and D?

C, D, and E?

Something else?

Do you mean that you saved some files that were on C to an external drive?


then after format lost some of them,

Do you mean format of the C drive? Or the external?

Lost some of them that you had copied to an external drive?

If they were lost from the external, how did that happen? Accidental deletion?

Recover them from what drive? Internal C? External?

Start with completing with this tutorial by Golden. Read it slowly and completely.
All it will show us is some information about your computer.

Using the Tutorial on this forum will make things easier for you. Read them as many times as needed and take your time.

Your "C" partition being full will cause problems.

Why not just format the drive or partition and reinstall windows ?

Post us a shot of Disk Management, Jack posted the instructions on how to do that.

Hi BPC, welcome to the Forum.

I can't understand what you are trying to achieve. You say you have reformatted your C: drive, which is normally the one that has the Windows Operating System on it, then you have used a file recovery program to recover lost files.

If you reformat a drive it wipes all the information from it, so why do you need to recover files that have already been deleted with the reformat, then from what you say to delete them again.

Could you please explain exactly what you want to do. If Windows 7 was on your C: drive it will have been deleted with the reformat.

Hi Ranger4, thanks for your reply. Sorry, that was worded confusingly! Before the format, I saved all of my files to another drive, then after format lost some of them, so I used a recovery program to recover them and save them on C drive. But the files it found are not the ones I lost, so I want to delete them. I want to delete everything on it. I have edited my original post so it's not confusing anymore! Thanks

Of course you can format the drive. Not from Windows.
If you boot from a Win installation disk or from a Linux USB flash disk, you will do it easily.
If you do it, you wont be able to load Windows as your disk will be completely clean.

You can't format a drive from which you are currently booted.

If you want to format C, you must be booted from something other than C--such as a Windows installation DVD or a bootable USB flash drive.

What do you have that is bootable, other than the C drive?

You said that the drive is full. If you don't do a shift+del the files aren't deleted but moved to Recycle Bin. If the disk is full, Windows can't work properly.
At this point, what you want to do?
I would do a Clean Install. Clean Install Windows 7
Dou you have a windows license key?

Hi Thanks for your help. This is the 4th formatting and reinstalled of windows 7 I've done in a year and I'm not men to do any more, as every time i do i get problems (the main one being that ive lost important files i can't get back and usb port drivers).

Then it's definitely time for you to start looking at having a regular backed up image of your main operating system. Macrium Reflect is the one I use as do a lot of others on this Forum.

Losing files that are important is something that should not occur with today's good back up systems & what you have experienced with lost files just should not happen.

This Macrium Reflect website has the various versions to look at & you can decide which version might suit you.
