All I meant was for you to tap the key rather than hold it down. I'm not sure of the key you're supposed to use to get into the BIOS on your laptop. The support.lenovo.com site is slow as molasses and I've only been able to view the User Manual in German, which is useless to me. The only English doc I found was a simplified Safety and General Info Guide.
Sounds like you're using the wrong key or it's the right key and the timing is not right. Start tapping immediately after power up. When you do get into the BIOS see if there is an option to disable any splashscreen on startup. Displaying those splashscreens on some machines shortens the window of time when the machine looks for keypresses to interrupt normal booting.
