Office 15 LAGGY AND BUGGY

This is perhaps the worst version of Office I have used. 2000 was fine. Skipped 2003. 2007 was innovative. 2010 was very impressive. 2013 is a serious step back. The new UI is extremely laggy on any computer of mine. The stupid smooth page reflow is just dumb, especially for long documents. Waiting for 50 pages of text to reflow takes forever. Plus, the time needed to save files is so long in Office 15. I hit "ctrl+s" and the entire program locks up, taking a good couple seconds to save. On office 2010, saving was almost instantaneous and I could still type as Office saved the file. This is not mentioning the sheer number of times Office 15 has crashed on me.

Anyone else share my sentiments regarding Office 15?

I'm having my sets of problems too. The UI is okay but its still not better as 2010's. My self I hate the idea of Windows 8 and Office 2013. There is only one thing I like in Office 2013 and its that you can download it on a computer or you can just stream it off the web.

The streaming installation process was slick. I liked that. Another feature I liked is the revamped image manipulation. Now, when dragging images around in Word files, a green line pops up before you can drag part of the image into the margins.

Those were perhaps the only two good features. Other than that, Office 15 is a sticky MESS. I regret that I installed 15 on all my computers; my family members are similarly complaining about 15 and the sheer number of times it crashes.

It's just a beta, so you can expect problems with it. You shouldn't be using it for your main Office needs.

I hope you are reporting the bugs and problems so they can be documented and hopefully fixed before the Gold release.

My question is; if you install over top or on top of 2010 with 2013, when you go to un-install 2013 will it leave 2010 intact and normal? Or is 2013 installed seprately?

You bet. I've sent numerous smiles and frowns to Microsoft. That button in the right hand corner is really slick, and MS should frankly just leave that button there, even when Office 15 goes gold. Why take the button away? What? We're not going to run into issues after Office 15 goes gold? It's a really easy way for end users to let MS know their thoughts. AFAIK there isn't another way of reporting bugs and problems that is so easy!

However, many of my problems aren't necessarily bugs - just general problems. I dislike how Office 15 tries to be slick and tries to smoothly reflow the pages when zooming in/out and scrolling around.

Please - no. It will prove to be a disaster on older hardware. Heck, it's a disaster even on my quad-core desktop.

I installed 2013 on top of 2010.

After uninstalling 2013, the previous version (2010) worked just fine.

So no worries :).

I too feel that the latests versions of MS Office are completely crippled in comparison with the former. I'm using Office 2010, and always looking back at 2003 when I had an usable menu instead of the funny ribbon. And from the screenshots I've seen of 2013, it's even worse now (I know it's a beta only, but they rarely changes anything significant).

What's more interesting is, with the changes MS introduces to Office, they're making OpenOffice a more competitive option. :p

No, not really. Perhaps in the tiny "normal user" market, but MS really gets it's money from the business market - and OO definitely won't see any increase in business users because of Office 2013.
