Only 3 Gb of usable ram

that was said because i did have a issue like that at one time when i discover i wasnt using all the ram i was supposed to be i jumped to 64 bit made a differnce but in turn i have seen some rigs

with memory all in usage no standby no nothing my whole thing is windows will not allow you to use it all
it does hold some ram back that is the whole thing it really didnt have to get this big lol but sometimes my reasoning is not understandable

Again I would like to see the reference that windows holds RAM back in some vague fashion. If there is a difference between physical RAM and Available RAM, it is due to memory mapped devices like video cards using up part of the adress space.

How much RAM does your video card have?

But in reality it is on topic - physical vs available RAM and understanding the differences, which is a good discussion I think.

Captain boom Boom. I think you may need to use the BIOS memory remap feature if you intend to utilize all of physical memory. I am speculating and reaching beyond my direct experience here but I believe this feature lets you map your video RAM to an address range beyond your physical memory (in your case it would be toe the upper 1 GB of the 16GB address range). Does your BIOS have a remap feature and is it enabled?

tw3kk is right. I am not used to the Windows 7 memory reporting yet - the same terms have different meaning between XP and Windows 7. From your screen-shot:

Installed Physical memory = just that
Total Physical memory = Installed - memory mapped devices (if no remapping)
Available Physical memory = Installed physical memory - memory in use

So your discrepancy is none at all - just the amount of memory that is in use.

well gene i have none at all to be honest with you i was simply saying even though i have a reasonable amount of ram installed im still never trully will use it

im also going to try a new gpu soon when the hd 6000 hit the scene then we'll see how much it changes my system

I think you are using it. That "missing" memory is just memory that IS in use by you, as tw3kk rightly pointed out. So you ARE able to use all of your 8GB of RAM.

As was already said earlier, you get the best view from the colored bar in the Resource Monitor > Memory tab. All the other numbers, e.g. in task manager, are very confusing. Example:

The reason for this is in 32 bit 4294967295 is max number a computer can encrypt.

The max number for 64 bit encryption is 18446744073709551615.
