Open File - Security Warning: Do you want to open this file?
Publisher: Unknown Publisher (they're joking, right?)
Type: Shortcut ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe")

This is the pop-up warning I get when I open the IE icon in my Links on the Taskbar. I created the shortcut and put it in the Links. The same shortcut on my desktop does not give me this security warning. I don't understand this.

Can anyone tell me why and how to fix this?

Thanks,
Phil

Hello Phil,

Did you create the internet shortcut using the method below and pinned it?

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/60274-internet-website-shortcut-create.html

It sounds like you may need to unblock the shortcut in the links.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

The unblock option doesn't exist on my version (Win7 Pro, 64 bit, running x86 IE shortcut pinned to links. Must be a Windows 7 bug. I can live with it. The security warning doesn't happen if I leave the shortcut on the desktop. Seems strange to me.

Thanks for your suggestion though.

Um, ok.

If you don't want to keep it on your desktop, then you might give this a try to see if it may also work. Place the IE shortcut in one of your user folders (ex: My Documents) instead, then pin it from that location to links instead.

You might see if starting over and creating a new internet shortcut using the method in the tutorial below, move the shortcut to where you like, then pin it to the taskbar may work without the message.
