Hi guys, i got my self in a kind of predicament here.

My PC will restart with no BSOD or error logs anywhere - screen would go black, keyboard lights go off, and it would restart as if i had pressed the restart button.
however i did manage to get this from event viewer

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Event ID: 41
Source: Kernel-Power
Task Category: (63)

it seems to happen when i open Adobe After effects and i scroll the bar to view the frames (mostly) - but it has happened without after effects but it seems i can trigger it by doing what i do in after effects

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated

System info
i7 920 @ stock
6GB ram @ stock
GTX480
EX-58-Extreme mobo - gigabyte
Windows 7 64 bit

so it seemed it may have been a memory issue
memtest clocked 11 passes without a single error

so i thought maybe its graphics issue...
first thing that came to my mind was OpenGL in after effects

disabled it and it stoped restarting

what does this mean?

gpu is a dud or after effects is having a fit?

or my gpu doesnt like open GL

what is open GL anyway?

what good is it for after effects?

what disadvantages is there having it disabled in after effects?

open GL wasnt a problem until recently tho.

It is definitely OpenGL that is causing the reboots it did numerous tests and it was proven when i have open GL on, it would restart my system,
anyone have any idea why this may be or how it can be fixed?

Thanks!!

OpenGL = Open Graphics Language. Most software now uses Direct3D, but not usually exclusively - perhaps After Effects is one of those?

No doubt the GFX guru's can offer a better insight.

Welcome to Seven Forums. Here's Microsoft's explanation of your event ID 41 Windows Kernel event ID 41 error in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2: “The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first”

After reading through it, it would appear you have a short somewhere n your power system or supply.

It would also help if you would please take the time to fill in your system specs here.

This way any member can simply click on the My system specs in the lower left hand corner and know the hardware your referring to.

If you need help with finding out all your hardware these is a pretty good programs

thanks thefabe, ive updated my system, i dont believe there may be a power failure in my system as it only happens in OpenGL preview in after effects - however how would i go about testing to see where the fault is at?

Thanks
