Out at last??

re : 8C/16T i7-5960X

a lot of programs can't even utilize all 8 threads on my current i7's, the exception being my fav weapon of choice Cinema 4D (and the Adobe apps). C4D can handle all the cores you can afford. Cinebench is the C4D benchmarker, score being linear to render speed. See this snip where the 5960X scores 75% higher than the 4770K (unclocked values)

Max TDP of the 5960X is 140W (4770K is 84W) so I'd say H2O is needed.

Who spends $1000 on a cpu ? On other forums I've seen 3D designers getting ready to splash the cash. The only similar machine core-wise was the dual Xeon Mac - 12C/24T. I guess the pro's can say it's tax deductable.

Now where's that lottery ticket . . .

Technology marches on but there was a time I was an early adopter and had to have the latest gizmo. Now I no longer work I have to wait till the prices drop to more sensible levels. It will be an interesting time. New OS, New RAM, New CPU's from Intel. Probably from AMD. Cheaper SSD prices. Maybe the 8.9 on the WEI on Windows 8 and 7.9 on the CPU in Windows 7 WEI is possible. $1000 for 0.1 differnce is not cost effective for me. YMWV.

Most programs don't need to use all the cores. I wouldn't want programs to use all the cores either unless that's all I had running and it made productive use of them. Game playing sure ain't one of them. Windows' process manager will divvy up the cores just fine. Seven or eight programs open at once is about all I can handle any way. ;)
