I see what you mean.
I have seen cases of unrecognised partitions/filesystems being fixed by making adjustments to the partition - more likely to work by booting the installation dvd and using that.
Also, using an imaging program seems to work - as in this case.
For those who have XP - there is another way, as outlined by cw - thanks for posting that.
