OK I get your point, why does doing it THAT way "list disk, list partition" do the whole HDD where-as you say doing "list disk, list volume" does not do the whole HDD.

Been looking at JK tutorial, active command can be used. JK starts with list disk.

As a warning:

If you do it this way ... it will do the whole disk, at least that's what I experienced.


list disk

select disk #

list partition

select partition #

clean all





Like I said, I'm going to set up another HDD so I can verify both methods in the next day or so, I'll keep you informed.

If you partition on HD, use delete partition, not clean all.

Hello Ray, thanks for helping with this.



That doesn't do a secure erase though, right, just marks the space as empty; formatting doesn't remove the data either, right?
It's the secure erase methods I'm interested in.

Just for the record, I did try this in VB and got this notice, though volume 2 is an un-lettered, empty, logical partition.

I'm an idiot, I realized that I had inverted the NTFS into NTSF, that's the reason it failed.
