Solved Persistant Installation Error Code 80073712 for KB2972211 (Windows 7)

Hello!

I keep getting this error update, and I have tried every suggestion I could find on the Microsoft site.

I ran the system Update Readiness Tool, and CheckSUR.log reports the following information

i did a google-search for "error code 80073712", which you posted, and came up with this:

Windows Update error 0x80073712

the webpage says to resolve the problem by running "system file checker".. here are the instructions:


  1. Open an elevated command prompt.
  2. Run the "sfc /scannow" command.
  3. Try to install update again.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

At any rate, I followed those instructions and here's the uploaded zip file that you requested. It's pretty large, though!

As noted in the title of this thread, the Error Code is 80073712, and the update that fails to install is KB2972211 (on Win 7 Professional 64-bit).

I've uploaded a file - b77aa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder b77aa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be two folders inside it (Manifests, and Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

And the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.
