Pin EXE files to Start menu, problem (Solved)

When I pin an EXE file to Start menu, in some instances the shortcut changes to a menu
eg, Palemoon.exe, Firefox.exe, Postbox.exe (programs)

I have used "C:\Users\"Computer name"\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu",
to create shortcut in WinExplorer. But when "Start" is opened each shortcut has been converted to a menu with an attached jump list

Dragging shortcuts from desktop onto "Start" -- same result.

How do I pin only the EXE file without the attached jump list?

It looks like you are using Classic Shell (?) for the start menu there may be a setting in it to change that (?).

Yes and yes. You are right

Solution: Applicable to Classic Shell only
Start > Settings > Classic Start Menu
(•) All settings
General Behaiour (tab) ... only available in "All Settings" mode
- scroll down to...
[ ] Enable jumplists <<< DISABLE

Have a look at Option 1 of this tutorial and set it to 0 should remove those jump lists. Jump Lists - Change Number of Recent Items to Display

Recent files were not the problem. "Tasks" list was the problem.

My Registry did not have "Start_JumpListItems"
Created "Start_JumpListItems" Value:= 0, made no difference to tasks-lists
Changed value to "9"

Your Classic Shell reminder was the winner

Thanks again
