Cut/Paste from Wikipedia:

ping is a computer network tool used to test whether a particular host is reachable across an IP network; it is also used to self test the network interface card of the computer, or as a latency test. It works by sending ICMP “echo request” packets to the target host and listening for ICMP “echo response” replies. The "echo response" is sometimes called a pong. Ping measures the round-trip time[1] and records any packet loss, and prints when finished a statistical summary of the echo response packets received, the minimum, mean, max and in some versions the standard deviation of the round trip time.

That's what a ping is. There are a few different reasons some firewalls block pings. If you want a more in depth explanation as to why, I may have time later to better explain, or someone else is more than welcome to chime in :)

Ping is a network tool. It is used to determine availability and responsiveness of network host. Mainly Ping network tool provide facility to verify that the specified IP address and it is used with the host that is reachable and it checks the response. Means it is used for sending test massage from one host to another for checking the performance of network connection. but i have no idea about this error.................

It's not really an error per se. It is not abnormal at all for a firewall or a router with a built-in firewall to automatically ignore ping requests.

In fact, several large domains completely ignore ping requests because they feel it may cause some lag if there are several requests coming in.

Another reason some block it, if there is no response from a ping request, theoretically you are not online. Some believe in stealthing themselves completely from the Internet.

Regardless of the actual reason, there is absolutely nothing wrong with blocking it.
